Fitness increasing - walking football

In terms of increasing fitness, has anyone had good/bad experiences of walking football (indoors at this time of the year!). The one I joined seemed to be more than walking.

Hi

I am 10 month post HA and stent my fitness has been building for the last few months and have recently taken up walking football

It’s surprisingly hard work and I am the youngest in my team by 23 years and still far from the best.

There is an element of walking faster than expected but we also are indoor in a sport hall and self refereed so it’s difficult to manage

It’s good fun though for me having played football all my life and thinking it was over at 42 it’s been a great find for fun and fitness

Good luck

Hi

Thanks very much for the reply. I must admit I really enjoyed the football. It is hard work since my MI in May 2018 and as long as my heart does not go above 130 and I do gentle running I think this should be ok.

I have been trying to keep mine at 120 but it sometimes goes up to 130 and 140 now and again as I get involved in the game and the competitive edge comes into play but I do feel it a bit afterwards and try to rest up after a game

My rehab nurse says if I enjoy it and I feel comfortable doing it then play so will keep playing

They play twice a week so thinking of increasing it will see how that goes

Keep up the good work

Great idea! I have been imagining about walking football for all ages, but was shy that nobody would listen to me. I imagine modifying the game of football is possible, so that people of all ages and sexes can join in and watch the sport as equally interesting, if not exciting and stressful game. In a walking football, players can mentally draw up lines of pathways. This can make it more cultural and courteous game which everybody will respect. Players can employ both the hands and feet to play the sport, hitting the ball with the head will be pointless as the hands will take it much further and employ the muscles much more efficiently, keep the blood pressure in balance. It will also allow stretching and flexibility of the whole body which is healthy exercise. Players will walk and socialise more and that will make everyone more friendly and healthy both in sport and personal relationships, and that improves the heart

"has anyone had good/bad experiences of walking football"

I had a bad experience of walking football last week while watching Southampton lose at home to Cardiff . It was painfully obvious that the Saints were actually playing walking football.
