Hi, I'm looking for recommendations please for a 'walking for weightloss' app.

I have a fitbit and have been tracking my heart rate with it & tracking my walking during lockdown - we've walked almost every evening. I feel Im ready to up the activity and would like to lose a stone. I had 2 heart attacks & a 2 year bout of acute Myopericarditis 3 years ago now - am left with permanent damage to my heart muscle but day to day I feel I'm doing ok and ready for the next challenge. I'd love to hear any success stories you guys might have had 🚶🏽‍♀️please.

Thank you. Sounds like your aunt was very successful that almost 1.5stone 👍🏽

I think its a great idea to use walking as an alternative to a snack 👌🏼

Hi I had HA in May 2019 and am very active walking as I dont drive .Due to other illnesses Thyroid disorder and being on Steroids for PMR found it very hard to lose weight .

I managed to lose 2 stone in a year just by watching what I eat mainly cutting down portions and following BHF advice .

I do 3 zoom exercise classes a week when up to it and walk for 30min every morning just to keep to the weight I am .

I do need to loose another 2 stone but its hard going .

Thank you, I have other probs too including underactive thyroid & fibromyalgia.

I'm ok with what I eat as Ive been a volunteer with Weightwatchers for 12 years but my activity has been drastically reduced so I know I just need to get out & get going now. Diet & exercise together has always worked for me in the past but now I reduced to just walking Im searching for a good motivating app. I like the sound of yourzoom classes so might try to find something like this too. REALLY miss my cardio rehab classes which were fab.

Hi Look on BHF site I belive thay do some rehab classes on thier.

I know what you are going through with both your other illness PMR is very similar to Fibro but pain is manageable most the time with Steroids

Three meals a day. Don’t snack and remember that almost all drinks except water have calories and are therefore snacks.

As somebody else on this forum has recently said “you can’t outrun a diet”. 80% of all planned weight loss comes from changing what you eat So the best and fastest way to lose weight (if that is your primary objective) is to change your eating habits.

My Dr advised me stop eating white, starchy carbohydrates (bread, pasta, rice, potatoes and all processed foods) and substitute them with more veggies plus healthy protein.

I lost 48 pounds in 6 months and reversed T2 Diabetes in the process.

This combined with a steady programme of low intensity exercise (eg walking every day, the BHF cardiac rehab programme every other day and Pilates) has meant that I have kept the weight off and I am now probably the healthiest I’ve been in years, which will hopefully help me to survive any future health/heart challenges.

Regardless, between now and if/when that happens, I feel great!

Sorry if this sounds a bit “preachy” but it genuinely worked for me

Thanks, diet side of weight loss is no problem - I know if I look at a piece of choc I gain 1/2lb lol! But I really believe to lose the weight Ive gained through inactivity is activity now Covid rules are relaxing 'a little' and I feel ready for a challenge 🤞🏽

Hi HHH2017

Walking to Mordor!

Edit - Sorry folks it’s - Walk to Mordor.

Are you a Lord of the Rings fan?

If not then why not?🤣

There is a fun App called Walking to Mordor. My son just told me about it. It’s simple to use and you can go at your own pace. Starting from Bag End you walk the 1927 miles to Mordor. Along the way you can keep friends informed of your progress and it’s will motivate you on mileage.

I’m trying to walk every day post open heart surgery and any motivation to get me out there is welcome. I find this fun and useful.

Good luck with your walking and maybe see you in Mordor! 🤣

❤️Maisie❤️

When covid-19 started I did a course on it and made my plans. This included identifying a local walk, mostly in the fields - about 11,000 steps - and simply walk it every day (I have missed 21 days since Feb 2020 due to weather). About 1 1/4 hours. My weight has not changed one bit but it is ok - bmi 22.7.

I have a fitbit charge 4 but I am not happy with it as the display is invisible in bright sunlight. I have two apps on my phone to plot routes - Pedometer and Huawei Health - both of which plot the route map fairly accurately. I use the fitbit just to keep records. Another useful app is Windy, a weather forecasting app that has a real time weather radar. With this I can usually plot a gap in the weather to fit my 1 1/4 hours in even on a rainy day so I hardly ever get wet! I am 76.

Yea, This type of diet I used isn't for everyone but years ago I weighed eighteen stone and was told at the time I had Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy and needed to loose weight to save my life. Diet to me was a mystery as it never came to mind at any time in my early years. I did read in a real old medical book, written by a Doctor who said the only way to loose weight positively was by gradually bringing down your weight by eating less and going hungry. Seemingly, that was the only way back then, no diets like today. This brings down the size of your stomach, hence you require less food to satisfy yourself. I was really determined to loose weight post-haste through fear of a heart attack and eventually lost 6 stones in 4 months, but boy was it hard going till you master it. But I achieved in saving my life and still use that ''diet'', even today at 75. Good Luck.
