Has anyone else noticed an increase in palpitations whilst taking bisoprolol? Currently on 2.5 after being upped from 1.25. I have noticed they are getting a lot worse.

Palpitations on bisoprolol
Beta blockers, like Bisoprolol, tend to slow the heart rate and lower BP. I cannot recall ever seeing them cause palpitations. What other drugs are you on? Please include non-perscription medications as some herbal ones can cause palpitations, e.g. ginseng.
I am on Clopidogrel, 10mg Atorvastatin, 10 ezetimibe, 75mg aspirin and 1000iu vitamin d. I am post one stent insertion 2 months after an NSTEMI and have RBBB cause by attack. Otherwise fit and health doing cardio rehab twice a week, walking gardening etc.
Nothing really stands out there. It is probably sensible to ring your GP in the morning or have a chat with your pharmacist. The latter are often better on side effects than GPs as they often see the patients more often.
I have an appointment with her spoke to her via emial we both work for the same trust so get easy access to her she’s going to do full bloods electrolytes ect limy heart rate and blood pressure is very low but as always been so Micheal when I am working out or just pottering about palpitations go away I spoke to a dr at work he said there’s a big connection for some people and as I have astmer This could be a cause I going to have a monitor could be electrical though or my dr thinks it’s the vagal nerve caused by reflux
Have you escaped from Greystone Park Psychiatric Hospital?
Just a note herpes never ever goes away it lays dormant and can do for ever then come back at any time gogetvur car happy driving
Yes I did, I don,t take it anymore. I,m going to Barts for an ablation tomorrow
I take 3.75gr twice a day for arrhythmia. It really has helped palpitations enormously but the drug is causing very severe water retention, so now I have had my ferusomide doubled, so that’s more to deal with. I have heart murmur since contracting rheumatic fever aged 4. I’m 70 now.
I'm on bisprolol and I get palpitations and will be visiting my pharmacist next week for advice on an alternative before I visit my GP.
My gp stopped it today and put me on metoprolol 50 mg 3 times a day took one at 2 o’clock now only get the odd one here there was getting 20?a min so now get one every 5 mins guess it take time to get into body
I have! I to started on 1.25 for one week then increased to 2.5. I originally was given this medication for my palpitations. It then came to light I had mild systolic LV impairment from an echo I had and was told this medication is what he would have given me for that anyway so to keep it up. I definitely am having more palpitations. I am also finding they are disturbing my sleep. I can’t seem to sleep for more than an hour or 2 at a time. Spend all night waking up. ☹️
Hi Suzie
You are the only person who seems to have had a similar experience to me with Bisoprolol. I am on 5mg (taken in a morning) and have a couple of nights each week with long episodes of palpitations, which keep me awake all night. I wonder if the Bisoprolol dose is 'wearing off'? Trying a higher dose made it worse and am currently trying to decide what to do next.
What happened to your Bisprolol in the end?
I am having terrible palpitations on Bisoprolol and feelings of bad anxiety.
I’ve been on it for 12 days and I’ve had 11 episodes of tachycardia.
More so when I lie down and a very uncomfortable feeling in my heart.
Cardiologist advised me to stop them today and go back on Diltiazem.
Very scary getting so many palpitations every single day.
Obviously doesn’t work for everyone.
That sounds very similar to my experience.
I've been advised to reduce the dose gradually and see what happens. I'm now down to 2.5mg dose per day and less of the awful palpitations at night, so fingers crossed. If the symptom does come back, I'll be stopping the bisoprolol.
Shame, in a way, becuase my BP was pretty good on it.
Scary isn’t it.
I’ve never had high blood pressure, so it’s not a problem for me to come off them.
I get that they don't work for everyone.
I just felt awful. I was only on them 12 days!
Have never experienced a feeling like it. I was dreading going to bed every night because I knew it would happen.
No idea why it was so bad when I was lying down though.
You would have thought it would be the opposite.
My cardiologist at St Thomas’ has been absolutely amazing.
I’ve emailed him about 6 times this past week and he has got back to me within the hour every time.
I’m so grateful.
I’m having a 72 hr Holter monitor fitted today.......😩 in this heat.
I bet I don’t have one palpitation in that time 🤦♀️
