my cardiologist has taken me off Bisoprolol, with dramatic effects ! This might help others.
18 months ago, I was put on 5 mg and it made me feel awful emotionally, and dizzy, and I had a tendency to fall over. They reduced it to 2.5 mg, which was okay, but I noticed when I go out running I can only go so far before I have to walk ,and then I start again for a bit and then I have to walk and so on. It was the same with walking up hills. I noticed that if I forgot to take it, I had much more energy and could run for longer.
Since I came off the tablets I have felt physically much much better, but what I have noticed is that my mood is definitely way better and I feel alive in ways that I haven’t done for 18 months. I didn’t know that what I was feeling below par until I came off the tablets!! I see on the Internet it is also connected to depression and there are other tablets you can try which may not have that effect.
I hope this helps at least one person😀

Four days ago I took my last Bisoprolol. My cardiologist changed my medication because of fatigue and breathlessness.
I'm now on Diltiazem slow release over 24 hours, and I was thinking it's a bit too early to tell but I feel so much better and haven't nodded off once over the three days.
It was the same with me I did not realise what it was doing to me till I stopped taking it best thing I ever did. My GP told me to just stop it I did not reduce it and had no side effects.
I was put on 5mg was finding it lowered my hr too much at night. Had other symptoms too. Consultant said I had to have it to go with flecainide 😳 I then started taking it only every other day, madness
I had to ask for an ablation and got it end February albeit privately!
"The drugs are worse than the ailments." Yes, it's often the way. Of course most of the stuff prescribed has never been taken by the prescriber! They have no personal experience of any side effects, etc.
Ive been suffering from fatigue and i think its medications doing it. Although im not sure if its statins or bisoprolol. Ive been on them since Dec 2024 since my HA and stent and ive not been able to get back to full hours at work because of the fatigue.
Im hoping my doxtor will sugest reducing the dosages or trying to stop them fotna bit to see what is causing the fatigue.
They thought it was folate deficiency originally but thats not comclusive.
Had an annual telecon with my consultant and she said I could come off bisoprolol to see how I get on. I am only on 1.25 mg and will give it a trial although I’ve also heard of people on this forum having issues coming off it …
poor old Biso, more bad press, it’s a lifesaver , I have been on 12 mg for 17 yrs , if you read it makes you depressed then it will . I say thank you Biso, every morning .
I concur with you Breesha 💯 % I was put on 5mg per day 10 months ago and it's helped my irregular heart beat terrifically" What a difference, it works for us which is good, like all medications not all shuits everyone 👌
same here - I’m on 2.5mg once per day and in combination with Dronedarone it has knocked my SVT and palpitations on the head. I sometimes feel cold, so I put another layer on. I need an extra half hour to ‘come to’ in the morning…..so that’s exactly what I do. My HR is now capped at circa 140-150 so when I exercise I only do steady state, no more HIIT and I always wear a chest HR strap.
Your experience is similar to mine. I had feelings of impending doom on 3.75mg. I got it reduced and I now take 1.25mg, but even that low dose slows me up on the hills. I just work around it as I mostly walk on my own, but it can be a problem walking with others. Thankfully the areas where I walk are fabulous scenically, so I just use the stops for "photographic opportunities". 😁
yes my cardiologist took me off mine. He said it was primarily to prevent angina but I’ve not had angina since my stents surgery. I kept feeling as if my heart was going to stop! Like it couldn’t keep up with my pace when hiking. Nothing since I’ve been off it and that was a few months ago. Can’t honestly say it made me depressed though.
Like all medications, some suit folk and some just don’t. It has to be tailored to what your body needs or requires.
I’m currently talking with my doctor about maybe reducing this med. after 12 months on it at 3.75, I’m struggling with server fatigue and bad muscle spasms and joint pain. But I have to admit as everything has been good up until now, I’m worried about changes as they say if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. But right now I feel broke, I could walk the dog for an hour but now I do the same walk get home sit down and sleep for an hour. Gym or rehab the same.
So blood tests to be done, then we review the plan, right now I don’t feel like I’m living just functioning. But good to know I’m not the only one feeling like this xx
That's how I was when I was on Bisoprolol. I came off it last week and started Diltiazem in it's place and I can't believe how much better I feel already. I have much more energy and feel like my old self. I'm not falling asleep each time I sit down.
Today I went for a three mile walk with my husband which included a long uphill stretch and I didn't have to stop to get my breath once. I'd usually have to stop a couple of times on a shorter flat walk.
Even better, my Kardia is showing NSR with no bigeminy.
My cardiologist started me on lowest dose 1.25mg/day and seems to be working ok, I am still trialing it. It works for me so far, but I have not got to the stage of a regularly exercise regime.
I feel I could hit a block then. We'll see how it goes, I have cardilogist appointment in November.
I was taken off bisprolol following a tilt table test showing after 8 mins hypertension dropped to a low 60/40 and it wasn’t allowing the HR to compensate to get oxygen to the brain ( thus fainting). I was getting very vivid claustrophobic nightmares that badly effected my sleep ( or lack of it, as had to get out the room and walk around and do things to take my mind off the feeling it had left)…horrid, and 9 months later still sleeping with a light on!
I had occasional "whiteouts" - when everything looks like an overexposed photo and you feel you're going to pass out but don't. Cardiologist lowered bisoprolol dose to 3.75 then 1.25 and I don't get this now. LBBB and 38% ejection factor. Also on Entresto (valsartan). No evident arrhythmia or problems swimming a kilometre but I have to stop every couple of hundred yards when walking or sit down every 10 minutes doing housework to let circulation catch up and over-nervous back muscles relax!
