I have been on Bisoprolol for about 6 years now and have been on 1.25mg for about a year.

I’ve just recently noticed my resting heart rate is between 53-57bpm.

Is this normal or is it to low? Thabk you

Thank you so much, that has reassured me. I have been feeling dizzy, but the drs have said it’s my iron because it was really really low (as i had a baby).

But, I am quite an anxious person, so I have been looking at other possibilities. Looking at my heart rate history on my phone, it was in the 50’s before I started I feeling dizzy. So I assume that the cause of my dizziness is low iron.

I have read different reports where is says a good heart rate is 50-100 and another that says it’s 60-100 and under 50bpm is not good. But your reply explain it’s ok.

Thank you again

Hello and welcome to the forum! I had a quadruple bypass two years ago and am currently in rehab following a recent amputation of my lower left leg. On Monday the doctor gave me a through check over and recorded a pulse of 64bpm. You are fine. When I was younger and fitter my resting pulse was in the 40s. Miguel Indurain, the Tour de France winner, had a resting pulse of 27bpm!

Thank you for you reply. Wow, you have been through a lot. I am a bit of a worrier as I have been quite poorly in the past, but you have reassured me that is is fine. Thank you

I wish you a speedy recovery

I would say it is lack of iron that might be causing the dizzy spells. I fainted when i was pregnant, i was anaemic at the time. Get steaming the brocolli and rest when baby rests. My RHR is between 35 and 50 and i am on a quarter of 1.25mg as I cannot tolerate tablets. Take care.x

Thank you so much, I feel better after reading that. I thought it was the low iron, but I can get a bit crazy sometimes and worry about it being other things. I did have it in pregnancy, but it wasn’t as bad as I didn’t feel dizzy. I’m on the iron tablets, but I will get some greens too. X

I think go with how you feel- mine was dropping to early 50’s & I felt so tired so gp reduced dose. Now back up to 58 & feel so much better

Hello MrsJet76,

I had a HA in May and a stent fitted, whilst in hospital my low heart rate was always commented on, but I had to explain numerous times it was (hopefully) down to my fitness background I'm ex racing cyclist.

I was amongst other meds put on 2.5mg of bisoprolol, my heart rate was low 40s, I then went onto 1.25mg of bisoprolol, I was at times feeling weak and nauseous, so have recently come off bisoprolol totally as advised by GP and BHF cardio nurse. My heart rate is still lowish. As in previous posts we are all different with different backgrounds in health and fitness, so what's normal??

Yep, when I had my heart attack in 2018 my resting heart rate was in the low 50’s. I had to come off the bisoprolol because it was taking it too low.

I’ve done a lot of running since, and my resting heart rate is now in the low to mid 40’s and I feel fine with it.

Mine's also something like Thatwasunexpected's. Like pjw17, I have been a club cyclist for many years, though I'm entirely at the opposite end of the talent scale to Miguel Indurain, who was mentioned above. Mine has always been low - it's not even in the 60s as I type this, at least if my watch is to be believed (which it isn't always, separate discussion).

I sometimes get giddy standing up after a long period seated, but that's always happened too. Possibly somewhat more common now, but I'm not even complete sure of that. I've not really seen any reason for concern. I'd probably mention it if having a check-up for any other reason, but just to give a complete picture.

Yea, I take Bisoprolol in a much stronger dose and my pulse rate is 50 bpm- 53bpm resting.

This is what is required for patients like us, a steady low heart rate is recommended. Good Luck.

Hi. I had a HA and 4 stents 20 months ago. My resting heart rate is about 43 and often drops to 37 overnight. My cardiologist and GP reckon that's alright as long as I feel OK.

Thank you everyone. It looks like it seems ok for it to be that low....although now I’m worried about having a heart attack 😣

I was troubled by my low heart rate as well. My HF nurse said that as long as I was feeling ok, the medication was doing what it is suppose to do. It reassured me hearing that. Mine is anything from 52-58 depending on what I am doing. Take care.

I've been on Bisoprolol fo r6 years too and in the meantime have had two open heart surgeries (valve related) and, after a cardioversion and an ablation. have had a pacemaker fitted. My rhr is also low. 47-50bpm is regularly my low of the day. I was concerned when my GP agreed "oh...THAT is low",,,, but my cardiologist said to me over a year ago that it was alright so long as I wasn't feinting or having other symptoms.

I am fine. It does concern me, but I remain active and follow my cardiologist's mantra. I trust to continue for many more years yet!

I too am on bisoprolol 1.25 for 18 months now and resting heart rate is 53 and drops to 40s when I’m asleep. Don’t get dizzy but I also have low iron levels. I’m 50.

That's fine as long as it's regular and steady.

I'm on 1.25mg bisop and my resting heart rate is about 45, and has been for several years.

as long as you aren’t experiencing severe symptoms like fatigue fainting or dizziness you should be Ok. Bisoprolol is heart specific meaning that it acts directly on your heart making the heart more efficient at pumping blood around the body. Don’t get too hung up about the number. Rather be alerted by your symptoms if you feel really grotty then seek advice from your medical team. Your heart is probably working just fine and maybe more efficiently doing its job as your heart is probably filling up with the one beat just as well as someone who’s heart rate is higher. Bottom line. If you feel grotty get proper advice to put your mind at rest. However I think you are ok
