Hi pollensa,

I had a bypass Nov 2016, hills even now are sometimes a struggle but it does get better. Currently in training for a longer stretch of walking I do at least one 15 mile walk a week and normally manage 6 a day though the recent heatwave has slowed that down. Keep persevering, maybe try some breathing exercises. I try and breathe in for 8 seconds, then breathe out for 10 does help.

Regards Mark

Hi Pollensa, great news on what you are doing. The interesting thing about this forum is the differences in peoples recovery, every one is different. You are probably doing more than some people who have not had a heart event. So I think its fantastic. If you want to do more and struggle with hills, which most 'healthy' people would, then see what your GP says. I am 18 weeks post op and feel like I am well on the road to normality, walking the dog at least a couple of miles a day, less in this heat. Did you do cardio rehab? I felt this was a great source of information and support. Best of luck x

Hi Wiltsgirl

I forgot to say yes I did go for 12 weeks to cardio rehab but there was only one other person who had a heart bypass there so could not find much about how other people were getting on with regards to fitness, I also had heart attack a few years ago which I think would make a difference to my fitness.

Kind Regards

Hi Alan, good to know you are doing well. My rehab nurse said dogs should be on prescription! I'm 52 and my father died in his early 40's so mine is family related. Still came as a shock. I think I should do more fitness, its difficult as I'm a bit scared of what the results may be. Trying to go back to playing tennis now this hot weather seems to have turned. Best of luck x

Mine is family related to my dad died 30 years ago of a massive heart attack and my grandad went the same way and none of us had ever smoked as regards to getting back normal I have just taken things slow a bit more walking each day I am not a gym person but I find walking has helped a lot it's just those hills lol but I think this is about as good as I can get health wise which is fine by me it's early days for you at the moment keep walking your dog and let me know how you progress you will get much better I promise it just takes time.

Cheers for now
