I had a mild heart attack in February and had a stent inserted. I’m off to the USA in June and looking for travel insurance. Does anyone know of any reasonably priced travel insurance companies?

I had a heart attack 2nd may 2015 and was flying out 3rd July. I contacted my insurance (supplied as part of my bank account) explained the situation and was asked if it had been in the last 6 weeks - I told them
Yes so they gave me a cost that would cover me however they did mention I should phone in again nearer time to see if the premium had changed. After 6 weeks post attack I was told I didn’t need to pay the premium as I was covered. I had looked around and some prices were ok some were daft. Worth checking out if they have a minimum time period post attack.
Hi there,
There's a pinned post here to assist with insurance questions healthunlocked.com/bhf/post...
I tried some of the suggested companies but could only get very expensive annual cover (around £400 extra) and it seems that you will need to declare any medical history for at least the previous 2 years. From my experience the companies see the fact that meds in the standard NICE medication pack i.e. beta blocker, statin, blood thinners, blood pressure tablets, imply that you have the conditions they are each directly used to treat, even if you haven't experienced any of those associated problems, as a result you appear as a high risk case and the price goes up, especially in the US where the health system isn't state funded.
I would recommend seeing if you have cover with your bank, I did and I was only using that add on for breakdown cover for the car. I told them about my condition, MI and stent, and the usual details. They were willing to still cover me. Saved about £300 on insurance for the family.
I used compare the market and was quoted £30 annual cover for Europe, which is so much cheaper than I thought it would be. I’m 37 and like you had a mild heart attack and have no other complications.
It can’t do any harm to do that before contacting specialist companies.
I found Staysure to be the best. Direct Line withdrew any cover related to heart immediately from my annual family policy and were the least sympathetic of all teh companies I had dealt with. The policy certainly wont stay with them when it's up for renewal.
