Travel Insurance Recommendations
Hello,
If you type in “travel insurance” in the search bar above, it will come up with a number of previous posts where members have recommended travel insurance providers. I am with Staysure and find that they work well for me as I have a niche heart condition, but they do cover a wide range of heart and health problems. All Clear and Avanti also seem to be other popular ones recommended on here.
All the best.
Tos
Avanti insurance , excellent
I use "Good to go", they were cheaper than Staysure by £200 for worldwide inc USA etc . It was £300 for me with 4 pre existing conditions including arrhythmia's, high BP etc , obviously you only know if they are any good when the proverbial hits the fan, but reviews are good for them. My advice, get quotes from all and do some research.
Pre existing condition insurance is getting more competitive for the more common pre existing conditions, anything serious or unusual is always going to attract a bigger premium.
I have a ILR fitted because I fainted 6 months ago and the ILR was fitted to discover what the problem was, I tried 10 different companies, but no one would cover me because my diagnosis was a bit vague, I was given a telephone number by the British Heart Foundation which turned out to be a Insurance Broker in Weston Super Mare, they were able to find me insurance, although it was expensive it is well worth it, to be able to do what you want to do.
We used All Clear for our recent trip to Egypt. They were very easy to deal with on the phone, unlike Staysure who we’d been with for 10 years. Their phone service was extremely poor when we needed to renew after my husbands cardiac arrest 6 months ago. All Clear is well worth the slightly higher price.
Just taken out a policy with allclear best premium on this occasion, have used the others mentioned here too. Suspect they’re all using the same software and medical back office so not a huge difference. 🤞
Hi I am with Millstream, they cover me for world wide excluding USA and Australia but there was an option to cover these two as well. Mine includes cruise cover (I’m writing this from my ship’s balcony in Cape Verde 🌞). I have two heart conditions, a spinal problem, high BP and cholesterol, plus a rare skin condition. I’m a bit of a wreck really, but feel fine 😂. We have a joint policy and my husband also has one medical condition, We are both 69 years old. It was very expensive but cheaper than some but cruise cover is always expensive because evacuation in a health emergency can involve a helicopter. I was refused cover by a couple of insurers. Before you start making enquiries, sit down and note all the visits you have made to GPs and Drs in the last 5 years at least and if you have access to your medical notes, write down what has been said. It’s important not to miss anything out. I found that taking out an annual policy wasn’t much more expensive than a single trip cover, worth it if there’s a chance you may travel again in the coming year, even if it’s within the uk. Be prepared to put a lot of time into arranging this and also prepare for some frustrating conversations as most health assessors are not medically knowledgeable. I did speak to a nurse with Millstream but, having recommended them to several other people, I know that doesn’t always happen. Good luck and have a great time away!
Recently used Avanti for my husband who had heart attack 13 weeks ago,. We needed cover for a Caribbean trip - they were one of the reasonable ones but also very good cover. ( Didn’t need to contact them thankfully!) so can’t comment on how they deal with claims.
Depends how long your trip is. I wanted world cruise cover for over 100 days. The only quote I could get was for £4,000. Nobody else would quote for it, not even Staysure who I've been with for 3 years. I was told via fb about the Nationwide FlexPlus account which includes Travel Insurance, you just pay extra for med conditions/extra days etc. Their insurance quoted £1,000 (I'm 81 with a heart problem) so I strongly recommend Nationwide.
I think it’s different for everyone for some reason? I’ve had a HT and a quad bypass in June 22 and my wife’s got major spinal problems and I’ve just got an annual cover from M&S for £300, it doesn’t include USA or cruise but we don’t need them this year, we are off to the Maldives and Europe. I’ve got till June to try and stop panicking about my first post problem flight and don’t even mention the fact that the island only takes 30 minutes to walk all the way around the diameter on the beach so the closest hospital is a45 minute sea plane away. I’m not sure we are doing the right thing.
