Crazy Travel Insurance Renewal

I've had annual Worldwide (incl USA) travel insurance for my wife and myself for the last 14 years with AXA PPP Healthcare. I've stayed with them for all this time as they cover my pre-existing heart conditions. Today I received this year's renewal and it has increased by 100% from £417 to £829. Obviously I shall be speaking to them on Monday but was wondering what others pay for their travel insurance.

It pays to shop around, use one of the comparison sites.

All policies depend on your pre-excising medical condition and your age. My partner has hypertension, long QT syndrome and S-ICD implant. For world-wide cover for a year the policy would be £900. For Europe only it was £180. Only one company would offer cover so we had no choice.

Happy hunting.

Ron.

I’ve just been looking for insurance for one trip to the US in September. Some companies won’t insure me at all. The cheapest for me and my husband on the comparison sites was about £580 and the most expensive was £1300!

If you are over 50 you can join a Women's Institute group £41pa. & then join their group travel policy with Open Travel for £195pa. to include your husband. Good luck. Clare

Try Staysure

Hi, if your wife is over 50 she can join a Women's Institute group & then join their Open Travel Co. Group insurance policy to include you, for £195 p.a. worldwide . I joined 2 weeks ago & sent up my application next day. They don't ask to know your medical conditions. Look up their website. I had been turned down by 42 companies & had high quotes from 3 others, as I'm over 70. Good luck. Clare

Thank you all for your suggestions, I do need to downgrade our cover as it's most unlikely we'll need any more than European cover for the next year but I am more annoyed at the 100% increase in premium but I will look at other companies. AXA came to the rescue in 2004 when I couldn't get cover elsewhere following heart surgery yet the previous year when we knew, and declared, pending surgery it was quite easy to get worldwide cover for a visit to China at a reasonable price. Once again, Thank you.

shop around.... the range on pricing is astonishing, personally today I found "AllClear" the best option so far, based on Family of 4, single trip to Mexico, prices ranged from £88 to £492+++

Ive just had to get new travel insurance for my Middle East trip. World wide ( incl America, Canada etc) plus cruise cover. It cost me £350 approx from Insureandgo. Try them!

I don’t know how old you are but if they’re covering pre existing FB heart conditions that looks like a decent deal to me. And once you reach a certain age, premiums seem to go up a lot every time you hit a birthday divisible by 5.

Not what you're looking for?
