Hello all, a brief introduction since this is my first post. My name is Nick and I had my mitral valve replaced last May as a result of endocarditis. I have mostly made good progress since then and my wife and I are now looking to travel abroad for the first time since my op. I'd be grateful to hear from anyone who has a good experience with a travel insurer both in terms of getting a good quote and actually making a claim. I have had a good experience with Staysure who were extremely thorough and had a competitive quote for a week long trip to Spain - however I'm keen to know of anyone who has experience of making a claim with them or any other positive experiences with travel insurance.

Travel insurance
Hi Nicholas - there have been a couple of threads on here about travel insurance so fairly confident you'll get some responses soon! In the meantime, we have a list of sympathetic travel insurance companies that have been recommended by our supporters. You can find the list and a bit more info here: bhf.org.uk/heart-health/liv...
Take care, Chris
Thanks Chris. I have looked at your list which is helpful. However, I'm hoping to get some feedback on experiences with making a claim - since it seems there's a big difference between getting insurance and being able to claim in a user friendly way. One experience with one company - which is aimed at what I might call 'more experienced' people - was very poor when claiming where they seemed to put every possible obstacles in the way of even making a claim - let alone paying out - we just gave up!
Hi Nick - as well as referring to the link Hidden shared, you might want to take a look at another thread that's popped up on the community. There are a few first-hand experiences of specific insurers, which you might find helpful!

Hope that helps
Hi, I have just got insurance through Higos' Insurance from the BHF's list. (re list: I think the phone numbers need updating as some numbers did not work)
Higos answered promptly and were friendly and helpful. They gave me a quote for Europe annual cover for me and wifey. Its more than before my MI but i expected that. I don't want to say how much it was but fair to say it was bought so we can now make holiday plans
Hi Nicholas, we were booked to go on a mystery cruise exactly two months after I was admitted into hospital with pains etc and had a double bypass graft surgical procedure and four days later another surgical procedure a cardio version..consequently we had to cancel the cruise..the insurance company Insure and Go were marvellous..we needed a letter from our doctor, several forms to fill in with the details of what happened and that was it..full refund and a letter from them wishing me a speedy recovery. We have renewed our policy and pleasantly surprised with an increase of £66 for annual cover including complete cruise cover (repatriation and air lift from ship if needed).
Regards
Sandra
