Last October while on a cruise, I was diagnosed with Angina pectoris and received fantastic service from the Medical Team. However when I tried to claim on our Travel Insurance we hit a brick wall. As yet Staysure have not paid our claim, and they have now refused us a renewal quote. However, after reading coments on this forum,I remembered that we used to have travel insurance from our Nationwide Flexplus account. This morning I have transfered our Nationwide account to their Flexplus one, and after being questioned about medical issues, I am glad to say that we are now both covered from today for Worlwide Travel Insurance. The cost of this was as follows. Medical screening questions resulted in us paying £242, for over age 65 another £65, and then from July it will cost us £ 13/ month. Given a quote from All Clear was over £ 4,400, I think that we have got a bargain. So THANK YOU for the advice given out on this forum that jogged the old brain cells, and after 1 1/2 hours on the phone and online bank, we are now fully covered. This cover also includes car breakdown cover and mobile phone insurance. Quite a Comprehencive list. very happy bludnut

Hi just to say if you are still having no luck with Staysure reimbursing you my advise would be to contact the Ombudsman -we had same problem - our claim was genuine but was rebutted by the company- very quickly it was dealt with and our claim (which was several thousand pounds )was paid to us in full.
The problem with Staysure and probably many other companies, is that they farm out claims to a seperate company. This then leaves claimants having to discuss issues with two sets of people. Thanks for the reply. bludnut
Doesnt matter on that score Bludnut they have what is termed ‘a duty of care’ and it matters not whom the underwriters are.If claim is valid the Goverment Ombudsman will contact them and take over any negotiation s needed, but often just being contacted by them is enough to miraculously change the situation. our was paid out in full within 7 days!
You're absolutely right about the ombudsman. My understanding is insurers don't like it if the ombudsman is involved because 9 times out of 10 the ombudsman will see in favour of the claimant. In addition, when a case is referred to the ombudsman the insurer is automatically charged an amount of money (I believe it's £500 but happy to be told I'm wrong) for the ombudsman to deal with the case, that money isn't refundable even if the insurer wins the case. Going to the ombudsman causes the insurer a lot of grief, just the threat can often convince insurers to change their mind!
Hi, thanks for your input, gueuse what, they have finally paid up, I wonder if they read the help on this site, Ha Ha.
