travel insurance

hi , I’m a 68 year old female and I’ve got paroxysmal atrial fibrillation and my left atrium is severely dilated. I’m also recovering from cancer so I’m down to one low functioning kidney and I have an abdominal aortic aneurysm which is still small enough that it just needs monitoring.

Last year yearly travel insurance was £888 for Europe only . This year I have been quoted £1592 , again for Europe only . This is with all clear . I have also tried Staysure and go compare and they will not even give me a quote . Does anyone know any other insurance company I could try that specialises in medical travel insurance.

cardiologist has said I can travel but finding insurance is difficult . I’ve has 3 emergency visits to hospital due to AFib in last year but am now on beta blockers. Ablation in April last year was unsuccessful

Thanks

the only way, I think, of finding suitable travel insurance is by going to a comparison site and filling the forms in as best you can. Just because I’ve found one suited to me doesn’t mean that they would offer you good terms as they treat us all as individuals. Try Moneyhelper UK or Moneysavingexpert websites, or an insurance broker.

thanks . I’ve tried a few comparison sites and they won’t quote. I’ll probably just have to pay All Clear

What about justtravelcover.com

Have you tried Insurancewith? They specialise in providing travel insurance for people with pre-existing health conditions, including cancer. I'm not sure if they will be any cheaper, but perhaps worth checking out?

Hi , thanks . I’ve just tried insurance with but they wouldn’t quote .

Sorry I just replied with the same company. Char

As above, try a comparison site covering travel insurance with pre existing medical conditions, or talk to a local insurance broker. And I have used Puffin Insurance in the past and they were competitive, but that was for me, you might find different.

Have you just done online quotes? Very often it's all to do with how you word it. Certain words just gene rate an outright no. You may do better by phoning them.

Are you travelling for some important reason or just on holiday? Is it really that vital if the latter, in your condition?

Interesting comment. Perhaps there are other places in the UK that might give the going overseas vibe without going overseas. Isle of Man. Scilly Isles. Isle of Wight. Channel Islands. Scottish Islands etc.

Somewhere on a past post it was mentioned that by joining a Women’s Institute you could use their group insurance? Might be worth a look?

have you tried your bank. We are with Barclays. They provide travel insurance, RAC breakdown cover UK and Europe in their package. The CoOp and Nationwide do the same. If your bank does not provide it then switch banks. All these travel insurance sites seem to use the same templates in their questionnaire for some reason.

I have high BP and mild heart probs and go on long cruises. The best travel ins I've found is by opening a Nationwide FlexPlus account (Aviva is the insurer). I was quoted over £4000 by several insurance companies for a world cruise but paid £1000 by opening a N Wide FlexPlus a/c - which includes Worldwide Travel Insurance, UK and European Breakdown Assistance and Worldwide Family Mobile Phone Insurance. PS You have to pay £18/month into the account and then pay extra for medical conditions, age, cruises etc.

Hi Maisie33,

I use goodtogoinsurance.com.

I think the issue is the 3 emergency visits to hospital.

3 Years ago I was in a similar situation where the insurance was more than the cost of the holiday. so I didn't travel.

I'm now in a position where it has been over 12 months since an emergency trip to hospital and my Heart Failure is stable. Insurance is now affordable again.

If money is an object then you may have to delay your plans 😐 Having received emergency treatment abroad (arrythmia following a failed Ablation and ICD delivered a shock) I would not risk travelling without insurance.

Hi try insurancewith.com they specialise in pre existing conditions, I have had a heart transplant and bowel cancer along with osteoporosis, arthritis and a few other things. I also used them before my transplant when I had arythmogenic cardiomyopathy, lvsd an ICD and severe heart failure. I hope you get something and have a lovely holiday. Char

Try “paying too much “ travel insurance I guarantee they will beat that last quote you received

They are very good

I loved going on cruises and we went on quite a lot of them, but the insurance kept getting more expensive each year because of my AFib, so we decided not to go on any more and buy a touring caravan instead. It’s not as exciting, but it’s cheaper.!!

hi everyone who gave advise on travel insurance for me to try. I have now finally got insurance with all clear again but £400 cheaper than they quoted . I know travelling abroad is not really necessary but when I’m stressed and struggling I love to have something to look forward to and relaxing in the sun for a week or two always gives me a real boost . Hopefully next year my travel insurance will be cheaper if I manage to stay stable . Thanks again . Advise much appreciated 😊😊😊
