Can anyone give me an idea of how long it takes to get a headstone erected after payment for it? I paid for my husband’s headstone three months ago. I have asked about it, but I keep getting various reasons as to why it is not erected yet.

Hi Robbo1

I'm sorry to read this, it's the last thing you need!

I don't have experience of this but I'm sure other members will let you know their experiences.

Take care

Hi Robbo1,I don’t know about headstones but do know that these sort of things can take a while. I had a bench done with a bronze plaque for my husband and that took a few months.

It may be worth ringing another funeral director or burial ground to get an idea of the timelines. I know headstones can take a while cos they have to source the stone and then get a stonemason to engrave it.

Sorry you’re having problems, it’s the last thing you need when you are grieving. Hope you can get is sorted quickly.

Hello Robbo1

I was just wondering if you had any news about the headstone for your husband? I really hope so, all this waiting around is not good.

There are a lot of variables in this kind of work, you are paying for a craftsman to make it. First there is the choice of stone, some are harder to work than others. Then there is the amount of text and detail on the stone, a long inscription would take longer than a simple one. Also, to ensure the stone is stable when erected, time must be given for the grave itself to settle.
