are hot flashes common with Behcets
Hello,
I think that might be a hard one to know for sure-- as there could be many extrenal factors involved, such as age (menopause or even post-menopause), certain meds can cause increased sweating/heat intolerance, and so on.
I suffer from severe heat intolerance (I wouldn't really call it hot flashes; I just have trouble tolerating heat as it flares up all of my symptoms, especially increasing my pain, swelling, nausea, and causes my skin to rash and rip open)-- which is due to the Behcet's.
However, I do have very low to hardly any estrogen moest of the time (I'm only 25) because I have autoimmune premature ovarian failure, and I suppose that this could be making my heat intolerance worse.
I do suffer from "chill sweats" at times and my face sometimes will be very swollen, red, and hot at the same time-- I always just assumed this was from the Behcet's because since I've been on a higher dose of Remicade, these sweating episodes have settled down a lot.
Also, when I was on Methotrexate injections once a week, a couple of hours after getting the injection right through to the next day (or sometimes it would linger on even longer), I would get increased sweating and get all clammy and hot (it felt as though I had a fever).
This disease is just full of so many unknowns and manifests intself in so many different ways. That's one of the biggest issues with Behcet's and treatment for it, as it causes disease and tissue damage throughout the entire body-- not just in one organ or organ system.
Anyways, I hope that this may have helped a little bit

I get a lot of hot flushes and the cold shiver ones Jenna talks about. I have had them for some years but now I am 52 some of it may be down to hormones as well as prednisolone.
In autoimmune disorders the immune system is fighting itself and your body so it makes sense that you would be flushing with heat or sometimes a low grade fever. Sometimes I think I am burning hot and feel myself and I am cold and vice versa...it is a funny old condition.
It is rotten and worrying when you are dealing with young people especially girls as there is so much going on in their bodies at this age anyway.....it may be worth asking for some hormone tests just to rule that in or out.
Hope this helps and you get to the bottom of it soon.
She is a lucky girl to have a grandmother like you who takes an interest in finding things out...this will only go towards helping her when the doctors do get to the bottom of it.
take care
Andrea
My lead consultant told me that my hot flushes were due to Behcets.
How did the Drs confirm that you had Behcets
Yes. "Odd sensations of hot and cold", cold intolerance, heat sensititivity, heat intolerance, body temperature dysregulation (inability to regulate body temperature), etc. are fairly common among BD sufferers (according to numerous reputable medical informational and research sites I have a list from, as well as all of - at least 7 or 8 - of my doctors/specialists). A number of medications and other secondary conditions can certainly contribute to and make these body temperature dysregulation issues much worse, making resolution of it very hard to sort it all out; however, body temperature issues are frequently a problem all by themself (with or without contibuting medications).
This problem has been the bane of my existence for the past three years (second only to chronic widespread pain and fatigue). The climate where I live is either very cold or too hot most of the year, and my whole life, day - what I do, when I bathe, what I can wear, my hairstyle, shoes, etc are dictated by my status with this problem (whether it is stable enough that I do not feel like I have the flu all the time - with either sickly sweats if I move at all, or painful cold and chills if I manage to cool off). Luckily, after many attempts to find a solution, I believe we have finally found one that works for me. Keeps the problem within tolerable limits anyway so I can move without being drenched in sweat, and go outside w/o
painful cold. I hope you can find something that helps you, too.
Yes, been confirmed to me by my Behcet's specialist - it is due to the inflammation.
