Hi, my throat and mouth are getting sorer by the minute (think I will contact the specialist). Is there any simple remedy I can take while working out whether it is Behcet's or MTX (as suggested). Definitely have pussy little blisters. I'm taking honey and pain killers.

Unfortuately am allergic to asprin - tinnitus in the ears. Years ago I took very strong doses of arthritis strength asprin after a whiplash accident - as we have said sometimes the cure does more damage than the problem (mind you the whiplash was bad).
You can use dissolvable paracetamol if you can take that.
I can't take asprin either and use this instead when the tea tree isn't doing the job quick enough, but I am not sure paracetamol is as effective. But we are all different.
Sounds so sore! I've spend the past few days trying to avoid an ulcer on my tongue getting worse....! My tongue is so swollen so you can guess how it sounds when I speak! I just use Bonjela and Difflam spray (nothing seems to work but it makes me feel like I'm doing something!). Lots of hot water with honey and Lemon.
Bonjela is good if your sores are brushing against your teeth (just to numb the area for a split second!) I'd say if yours are that bad to go to the specialist.....don't suffer for any longer!
Hi Denise - yes I have been using Bonjela and similar items. We have a discount chemist warehouse nearby and I had fortunatley stocked up. Don't you think it funny that we are buying all the 'baby' things. There are some other pastes but if someone knows how to get them to stick to the mouth I would like to know. As you say it is only temporary the relief. Was thinking about making up hot water with honey and lemon but was wondering about the lemon?
You are probably going to laugh [if it doesn't hurt too much] but you can get Tea Tree Antiseptic Lozenges to suck. A lot of them have honey and other nice things added.
I think the one's I last bought were made by Natures Plus...not sure if you can get them in Oz but you could try...or they might do another brand where you are.
Hi your GP will give you a prescription for (chlortetracycline triamcin mouth wash)..... I have tried every product on the market and nothing really work I had mouth ulcers for a full year about 10 to 15 at a time and for the last 6 weeks since I started using this mouth wash I have only had the odd one. I was prescribed this by Prof Moots who specialises in Behcets he works from the Centre of Excellance at Aintree. To get the correct mix my pharmacist phone the pharmacist at Aintree University Hospital. This mouth wash has been an absolute god send to me I can now deal and learn to cope with everything else Behcets throws at me.

Thanks Sunset - did you say avoid oral hygiene? I think you mean look after oral hygiene. Yes ulcers in the mouth are a symptom of the whole system being in trouble.
I have had so many calls and drs visits over the weekend. It is a long weekend in Australia and of course all these tests that they want done urgently can't be done.
Of the three things they think it is - BD flare, MTX toxicity & Shingles none of them should resolve as quickly as they have (down to half the ulcers and pussy tops have gone). I stilll feel unwell but nothing as bad as Friday (I'm starting to wonder if it is shingles - have been started on antivirals just in case.

Hi Lesley I have been trying to email you all weekend but it won't send for some reason :(... I'm glad I've read this now I was getting a bit worried about you... I'm glad they have been able to tell you what it is and your getting some relief from your symptoms
Hi, in relation to mouth ulcer problems I have suffered with BD for many years and especially mouth ulcers on tounge and lips (Very painful) I recently suffered a bad flare and had about 20 large ulcers on lips and inside my mouth this coincided with a dental appointment, my dentist was concerned and made a referral to a maxofacial specialist. I was told that the ulcers were in the specialists opinion "medical ulcers" caused by my anti inflammatory treatment, I take mtx and daily naproxen 500mg, I have only been on mtx for 1 year so I know as I have had ulcers for many years it's not that. I stopped taking the naproxen 12 weeks ago and I haven't had a single mouth ulcer in that time!! In the past 10 years I have never gone more than 2 weeks without an ulcer so fingers crossed it is the fact that all that suffering may have been down to side effects of medication?? I now take co codamol as and when required along with weekly mtx (20mg).
As with all disease we need to try different things to find out what suits us best. Good luck and best wishes to you all.
