What are your experiences of exercise?Does it make the symptoms worse...does it cause a flare?
Hi Dundee
In the past I have found that if I get excessively tired then I have gone into a flare (I'm a bit more cautious now and try not to wear myself out).
Have never been a great one for exercise such as jogging etc however I loved to travel and sometimes with going on tours (lots of walking), or queuing for ages, it definitely has caused a flare.

I have found that exercise is beneficial, although it is important not to over do it. Due to my symptons, I can only do gentle walking and certainly not jogging or anything like that. However I consider that it is important to exercise GENTLY when ever I can. I love gardening, but find I have to take a break after about 10 minutes before I can carry on. I hope you find this helpful.
Well it depends how you're affected by Behcet's itself..in my case, my jugular (neck veins) are visible most of the time..so when i start exercising they fill up very rapidly causing a discomforting feeling..however it hasn't stopped me from working out and trying to stay in shape. Furthermore, I've personally realized what i now can/can't do, and to which extent i can push myself..you need to embrace it and understand your new body! (I've learnt that i need to breathe properly when exercising so my jugulars don't bother me!)
I'd start by walking, jogging, running and take it from there..Good luck, and do keep us posted!
Thanks for all your answers
It looks like I will have to pace myself and realise I can't do what I used to do.
That's one way to look at it..but believe you me, you'll end up depressing yourself..think of it as "old age"..i got behcet's when i was 18..i was going to the gym daily and was swimming competitively..i stopped everything got depressed saying i ca't do this/that..i ended up gaining weight and pissing my health away..don't give up too fast..you can almost do EVERYTHING you used to..you just have to pace yourself..i really want to scuba dive, my family doesn't think i should..which is why i plan on going for a trial dive to see if i can..but im not going to say i can't do it without trying
Imperius,
I was diagnosed nearly 40 years ago, I'm now in my fifties, I learnt to scuba dive when I was 30, the only thing you would need to do is see a diving Doctor as he would need to give you a medical and check what medication your on. Good luck I loved diving, I even gained a professional qualification. I don't dive anymore as I'm have early stage emphysema. But don't let BD hold you back.
Hello Dundee;
Behçet's Disease-I think about from time to time affect you our. I think that the mental troubles and nutrients factors. During certain times of certain disease factor why, we enter a period of nekehat, repeating he hopes soon to occur, affecting disease treatment; healthy days work.
To discuss;
Never give up on exercise. You will know how far you can go if you do it regularly and see how you are the next day. It releases endorphins and helps your immune system, and can also combat depression and anxiety, which often go hand in hand with BD. Be careful, and be prepared to feel tired, but get stuck in and enjoy it. Tim
