Nasal sores & ulcers

Hi there,

I'm new to this forum. Currently in the midst of a significant flare, post COVID infection 3 weeks ago. I have very sore nasal sores/scabs, which also creates congestion. There is minimal data in the research about nasal involvement. I am taking azathioprine, colchicine and prednisolone at present, with minimal effect. Has anyone else suffered with nose issues?

Hi, I’m very sorry to hear this - sounds like you’ve had a rough time.

Yes, I also suffer from nasal ulcers intermittently. They’re very painful as any movement, such as eating, pulls on them. I take colchicine which I find helps reduce the ulcers, though I still get them in all the usual places.

I’ve not found anything that helps the nasal ulcers, though once they start scabbing I know they’re on the way out.

Really hope you feel better soon X

Hi there and than you for sharing your experience. I too take colchicine (for all the usual places!), however I don't tolerate the side effects very well. I managed 5 days and then switched to a short course of prednisolone. Yes I agree, once the scabs form I know I'm on the way to recovery. Here's to a better few days ahead. We just need to be patient with our poor bodies!

I use Naseptin cream because invariably my sores get infected. I had one cauterised last October three times as as soon as the scab drops off it starts to bleed. It is completely blocking one nostril and I admit that I find it really hard to stop putting my finger up my nose lol. I use three in one mouthwash for the oral ulcers and it’s amazing. I have just upped my colchicine to two tablets daily. I hope you find something to help it is just so miserable xx

Thanks for the recommendation for nasal treatment. I'll keep it in mind for next time. I too am a bit fixated with picking the scabs haha! Terrible habit.I've noticed a dramatic improvement on day 2 of prednisolone, but that's not my drug of choice - only last resort.

Between losing my taste and smell from COVID and then not being able to eat, properly due to ulcers, I have been miserable without the luxury of comfort foods! Here's to a better week ahead with my favourite snacks ☺️

Hi, no but I've read on my members fb page that spraying inhalers on the affected area helps.

Hello.

I'm so sorry you are experiencing this.

I have a long history of nasal ulcers that have burrowed through to the outside of my nose. When that happens, I am quite ill. My rheumatologist usually prescribes a short course of prednisone that starts the healing process.

I am currently taking stelara and methotrexate.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Hi,

I have also suffered with Behcets for many years and am also on the same medication as yourself.

I have over the past year had painful nasal ulcers/scabs and was informed by my Behcets nurse this although not as common is also a symptom of my condition.

I apply some Vaseline to keep it moist which won't help with the healing process but reduces the risk of the scab peeling whilst allowing it to heal.

I really do feel your pain 😑, hope you get well soon.

Thanx Abby x

I am plagued by nasal septum ulceration. ID specialist said I am prone to it b/c of the several sinus surgeries I have had. He did do a nasal swab. Grew Staph. aureus. Said I could treat with Bactroban. One ENT tried stitching silicone dressings over the ulcers. Did not work, plus silicone fell off too soon.

Another ENT said not to use Bactroban as then would get resistant bugs. He did scope. Said ‘not cancer’ …phew.

Said rinse with Flo sinus care. Balanced salt solution in warm water.

Also said use Paw Paw ointment.

I rotate these treatments. When it’s bad the only thing that helps is Bactroban ointment.

I am starting to be paranoid about a ? parasite so going to ask GP for formalin specimen jar. I’m tired of having to do my own research & keep advocating for self (& family)

I had no idea that my sore nose could be linked to my behcet’s. I have had a sore (on the bit that seperates the two nostrils) that comes and go’s for around 3 years now. I will ask about it at my next appointment. Thanks for the info
