Fatigue

I have fatigue since I was diagnosed with Behcet's, now within the past months it has intensified, I can barely do simple household tasks or work with the laptop. It requeries an overexertion and I feel very tired all day with no energy. Does anyone experience the same? or know anything to improve or alleviate the symptom of extreme fatigue?

Low refined carb diet and gentle exercise works for me with loads of green veg. I don't each much potatoe, rice, pasta or sugar. I try to avoid ultra processed food where I can. Perhaps consider looking at blood sugar levels. (See Glucose Goddess, she gives a lot of info for free on her website and has a good book). I supplemented with Methylfolate and a good quality multivitamin for a while. Also magnesium. I found these useful at the time but no longer need them.

Check any medication (especially birth control) for depletions they can cause in nutrients.

Hope you feel better soon. Fatigue was a big issue for me at times but not so much for now.

hello maraxtel

Yes, I totally understand what BD fatigue feels like. I have experienced fatigue that is so intense - to the extent that I wondered if that is what dying people would feel.

I sort of “worked around” the fatigue by sleeping/taking siesta several times during the day (in addition to night sleep). It is specially important for me to sleep (even I do not initially feel sleepy) after a workout. After around 30 minutes of siesta, i feel recharged enough to do some chores.

Basically, it feels like my batteries are damaged. Other people charge their batteries during the night and they are good for one full day. I charge my batteries an average of 3 times during the day (in addition to night sleep) in order to do some chores.

Best regards

agree with the diet change. avoid sugar and processed foods. eat nutrient dense as possible. also please have b12 and d tested. you are likely low. colcrys will deplete b12. i know supplement heavy with b12 injections and sublinguals and capsules and i finally feel alive.

I can't fall asleep or sleep well. Only after a hefty pain medication do I sleep and thus is feels controversial, because you'd think you'd feel more tired after tiresome meds, but after sleeping with no pain I wake up earlier and more refreshed. Still, getting up and through the day is tiring.

I exercise very frequently, take a pain killer and keep on going, but it is getter harder day by day. And if I do something really physically hefty I might be zoned out all day the next day. Just lie in bed recouperating from exercise. Yet I know exercise is what has kept me going this long so I try to get up and go. I have no answers for you, but you are not alone in this fatigue issue.

Getting a goods night sleep is somehow the answer, but I have no good answers in how it's done. None of the conventional methods are good enough for that, like lighting, airing out or keeping the bedroom cool. I can relate to the damaged battery theory: batteries just won't charge and thus won't give out energy.

Methotrexate helped me on that a bit and also I didn't feel as cold all the time. But bigger amounts of Methotrexate stated to up my liver labs so it was taken down to 20mg's, which is not enough.

Hi I know what you are going through. I have never experienced exhaustion like it. Get your B12, folic acid & Vitamin D levels checked with a simple blood test. If I don't have between 10 & 14 hours sleep a day it's impossible to function. When I wake in the morning if I have the energy I'll shower. Once I'm dressed & had breakfast I lay on my bed & go back to sleep again for up to 4 hours depending on the night I've had. Usually it will be a 2 hour snooze & that will keep me going until tea time. I'm then in bed by 8pm completely exhausted again. You definitely need to sleep when your body needs it or you won't be able to function. Take care. X
