Infected Nasal Sore

Hi everyone, has anyone ever had a nasal sore become badly infected?

I felt I had a sinus infection a few months ago. I went to the chemist and they refused to give me anything, they just said use albas oil inhalation. I tried it did not ease the headache or burning sensation and blocked nose. I have put off going to the GP because currently I am fed up of hospital visits. I just thought it would improve on its own.

Now I have neon green liquid running constantly so bad that I have to plug my nostril, nose bleeds with big blood clots. I saw a GP yesterday and she did an urgent referral to ENT, she thinks it coukd be a malignant polyp? I told her I had an endoscopy in February to ascertain whether there were ulcers on my vocal chords and there were no ulcers anywhere but I had a flare six weeks ago and still have residual mouth ulcers and this troublesome nasal one.

Has anyone got any experience of such an ulcer? I am being seen by ENT on Monday so it is a fast response but I am concerned now.

Thanks

Hi Cecily so sorry about this, have you tried Bactroban ointment? I was given this on prescription however it worked greatly when I got an infection. The second time around when I couldn't see a consultant my cousin that is a GP told me to mix a antibiotic capsule into some petroleum jelly or aqueous cream and that helped too. Hope this helps regards Zuzu

Hi Zuzu, I have no been fast tracked to ENT which means there is a potential tumour. After three days of antibiotics and Naiseptin I am still getting discharge, blood and swallowing blood clots. I think there are two issues the sinusitis and the ulcer infection. I haven’t tried Bactroban but will definitely ask about it when I see the ENT specialist on Monday xx

Oh I forgot to mention Niaseptin is similar to Bactroban so it would not have made a difference as they both are antibiotic ointments

hi cecily, yes i have experienced this a couple of times. one particular time the infection in my sinus that lasted for about a month and i was in an unbarable amount of pain. i was basically unable to do anything over that peroid like even watch tv or read, it was horrible and i will was one of many bad flares i have had.

my primary symptom of my bechets is large ulcers in my throat and nose. i gargle salt water and use sinus rinses from the chemist. you have to be pretty on to it with the nasal ulces because they can get infected in a short peroid of time.

i have tried all the various antibiotic ointments, but yeh prevention is the best method here. at first onset of any sinus pain, do a gentle sinus wash.

hopefully you get on a treatment that prevents them for the most part. i've been through a massive journey trialing serveral treatments with varied success. currently on rinvoq which has been work but i am still getting flares when i get a bad bug or overly stressed.

hope you feel better soon.

Thank you Francis I am so sorry you get them too. Sadly my problem this time appears now to be a mass. All the ENT Consultant coukd see was a vascular looking, weeping mass up my left nostril which she believes is the tip of the iceberg. I had a CT scan yesterday and have to go back after Christmas for the results. Scary really. I don’t know if this has anything to do with Bechets or a coincidence but it is the same nostril that I have the ulceration x

Sorry to hear that Cecily. Hopefully it's a polyp or something. Wishing you a speedy recovery. I'm middle of an aggressive flare both nasal passages as raw and ulcerated as well as my throat. Was set off by a viral sore throat bug, has activated my bechets like a wild fire. I've been resisting but I thinking I'm going to have to hit with a decent dose of pred.

I am so sorry. I was awake all night with pelvic pain, no doubt caused by constant coughing. I think my body hates me. No sadly they ruled out a polyp immediately. I asked if it was cancer and she said it would be rare but she cannot rule it out. Once they have the CT results they will liaise with the vascular consultant about a biopsy. I hope you feel better with the prednisalone, it always works for me.
