Thank you Joanne for providing all these papers. Yes, I agree, that there is a mine field of medical jargon but what I gleaned was very interesting. I was especially interested in the paper regarding ‘fatigue’ in BD patients - something most GPs do not fully understand. It seems to be a vicious circle - pain = lack of sleep, lack of sleep = pain! When you only have 8 minutes to discuss in surgery it is a pity that you can only choose one problem to present therefore they never see the whole picture of ‘fatigue.

I have a lovely specialist and we both agree on the importance of sleep. He is quite happy to prescribe temazepam which he described as relatively harmless in comparison to some of the pain killers. Maybe your GP would prescribe something to help you sleep. I know it has improved my quality of life. Lesley

I could never say benzodiazepines (temazepam, diazepam etc) are harmless as they are so addictive. Pain clinics can help find alternatives. I agree it is a difficult balance of treating the Behçet’s disease symptoms to reduce pain and allow sleep but also risk of medication side effects eg with steroids preventing sleep. It all drives me slightly mad!!
