Hi there. Flu jabs can make you feel a bit rough but it is the lesser of two evils as the proper flu can really take its toll on someone who is immunosuppressed. Saying that, flu jabs only provide between 40 and 60 percent cover anyway due to the ability of the flu to mutate.
My advice is get it!!!!
I am on methotrexate, infliximab and other things and have found the flu jab to be really helpful over the last ten years in helping me stay well through the winter.
I caught the flu earlier this year and had to spend a week in hospital due to BD complications. It was pretty nasty. As soon as I was out I had the flu jab for protecting from other strains.
Prof Fortune at London centre of excellence said to have the flu jab if behcets is quiet but if in a flare wait until it has passed. Just thought i would pas this on.
Not likely "Flu" symptoms. More likely an egg allergy or a reaction to the "carrier" the use to thin it down with.
Flu shots are a killed flu virus and can not cause flu.
It is grown in eggs. Many people are allergic to eggs and don't know it
It is called a hidden allergy, because eggs are in everything! Try going egg free. No baked goods, mayo, etc. For a week. Then add eggs back in.
Also, there is the "carrier" used to thin the egg the flu virus is grown in and to make many doses from one egg. It depends which pharmaceutical company made the flu vaccine.
Sometimes, I have a reaction, and sometimes I don't. My pharmacist explained all of this to me. Plus, there is the psychological part - you expect to get sick (because it used to be a live virus and we got a light case of flu) so we expect to get sick - and we do.
Check out the egg allergy. That might be the problem. Eggs are a common, undiagnosed allergy.
Yes, do take a flu injection as I missed my Swine Flu jab in 2009 and suffered a bad case of Swine Flu which lead to my medical retirement because of the side effects on my BD.
