Controlling genital ulcers once they start...

Hi there. I have been free from genital ulcers for about one month but I can feel a couple of bumps there today so here we go again... 😢 Is there any way of stopping them from turning into the massive sore ulcers? I have an appointment at a Behchets clinic in December so for now I have no access to medication. I am grateful for any advice you give.

There IS a connection between NICOTINE and oral and genital ulcers, studies are on line.

NICOTINE patches are being used to control them.

This needs to be discussed between you and your doctor. NICOTINE gum also may help.

I do not suggest NICOTINE products for anyone. I have no medical experience. I am a patient just like you. But I have researched it for myself. When I quit smoking, my ulcers went nuts.

Wishing you all the best,

I've only ever been a social smoker in my younger days... but got to say this has got to be the best suggestion ever! Much better than all those who give advice like: stop eating sugar and drinking alcohol 😂 But seriously, I don't think I'll risk a nicotine addiction... I will look up the research though. Thanks.

I believe you only put a patch on when you feel a flare coming on. The rest of the time, don't use them. Also, people use asthma inhalers with cortisone in it. Place over oral or genital ulcer and "puff" it once or twice, 2 to4 times a day. Less painful, heals faster.

Dr. Yazici was studying NICOTINE and ulcers. I don't know the out come of his study.

I use over-the-counter hydrocortisone cream on the "pre ulcer" bumps and find it helps. No prescription required, it's just at the pharmacy. I also sometimes use a beeswax + natural oil face balm which is such a weird thing to do but seems to help too (I've heard beeswax is an anecdotal remedy for ulcers with some minor scientific backing... Worth a shot so I tried it and found it to be helpful)

Some people on here use steroid inhalers (puff them onto their genitals) which apparently helps a lot too.

Rest and get plenty of sleep to nip it in the bud. I haven't given up alcohol, but I do abstain when I am fighting the pre-ulcer bumps.

Good luck!

Hello, My ulcers have eased off substantially over the last year and a half, now when I feel I have one coming pop a tiny amount of Trimovate (I think it's a multi purpose cream, steroid plus other things). It seems to do the trick 9 times out of 10. Mine start as little bumps too.

Hiya,

I use a steroid ointment as soon as they arrive and it works. You can buy 1% hydrocortisone if you can't get to a doctors... but if you can then ask for Dermovate ointment. My specialist tells me to lather it on generously, and it seems to do the trick.

Hope this helps. I know how they much they can get you down :(
