Hi I have behcetts and two years ago I had ulcers in my throat larynx pharageal and esophagus it was awful they had to put a feeding tube in my tummy for six months for them to heal I have just changed from anti tnf to humira and they have started to come back in fact since the change to humira I feel a mess their is nothing I can advise you other than keep your throat lubricated with menu honey I used to have it in warm water and eat bland foods and soup nothing harsh and try to have light meals as the oesophagus does night like heavy intake of food when it is under pressure good luck and I wish you a speedy recovery mandy lee x

Hi so sorry that you are feeling so poorly. When I have a flare, have had BD for about 40 years my main symptom is ulcers I do get other things but I concentrate on them as they pull me right down. I use Manuka honey, 1 teaspoon in boiled warm water morning and night, this has to be 10+ 15+ really does sooth them and it is also a really good healing agent, about £14.00 for a jar but really worth it. I also do not use toothpaste with any chemicals in so I use Aloe Vera Forever Bright, with no added fluoride. This also is soothing. I also use Merc Sol 30c which is a homeopathic medicine take 2 every 4 hours until the pain starts to subside, you can get these at a heath shop. This may not work for everyone but I feel the less chemicals I put into my body the better. Also when I do need any medication it works better as I don't take it all the time. Another thing which helps is Coke, don't know why but it takes some of the pain away. Also do have a look and see if there is a pattern to see if anything in particular causes these flare ups. Keep a diary of food you eat, stressful situations that you might find yourself in anything that could contribute to this happening. I find I can't have coffee anymore, this irritates my ulcers, sweeteners, and alcohol and a few others. Do try and stay positive all the best Biddy

Absolutely. Lansoprazole is a fantastic medication that actually heals esophageal erosion (hand in hand with ulcers) from acid reflux and is sold OTC in a lower dose. I was on it for nine months. What a life saver!

The digestive system is a critical immune component. Speak to a gastroenterologist soon about dietary changes and supplementing probiotics. Keep a list of what aggravates your stomach and throat.

Coconut products are very soothing and anti inflammatory and are one of the "natural" foods I swear by.

Good luck.

Yes, it is and I get extremely seriously ill with esophageal ulcers. It always require hospitalization because the doctors are worried my esophagus will perforate or rupture. They run a scope down just far enough to see the first ulcer. They will not go past the first ulcer for fear of rupturing the esophagus. The doctors say they are bigger than silver dollars. I am put on NPO and I get morphine every four hours in the V and I get Valium every four hours. Therefore I get something for pain every two hours and I still cry from the pain. This has happened to me since I was six years old. I also had ulcers in my mouth and genitalia and still never got a diagnosis until this year when I had meningoencephilitis. Esophageal Ulcers never cause a burning sensation for me. Instead of I swallow my saliva it literally feels like I am being stabbed. I can feel when the saliva or any food hits a sore. I can feel every lilt as the saliva goes down my esophagus. To me it is the worst pain of all. It hurt worse than my head and neck when I had the meningoencephilitis. I am always hospitalized and never allowed to eat or drink for fear my esophagus will rupture. There is never burning just excruciating pain. it is a pain I cannever forget. Now sometimes I do get burning sensations in my esophagus that can be extremely annoying but for me that is not a sign I have ulcers. When I have excruciating pain I know it is ulcers. I have also had pericarditis that required surgery, scarring of lungs and numerous blood transfusions and constant bloody diarrhea that will result in hospitalization and it still took forty years to diagnose mr. The worst of all for me is esophageal ulcers. I would try to get a definitive confirmation that you do indeed have ulcers. I do not know how anyone can manage to stay out of the hospital with an esophagus full of ulcers. Just the dehydration alone is dangerous not to mention the possibility of it rupturing.

Yes it is possible. I've had ulcers in my mouth, nose, throat, hands and ankles a swell as down below. Just now I am suffering oesophagus problems and a very dry mouth. Waiting for results of ultra sound but I believe it is the Behcets.

Yes and yes :( I know I've had the mouth and throat. Very painful. I've seen some other bloggers here suggest gargling with coke (the soda!) . I've never tried it yet? Keeping your mouth clean. Staying away fr drinks/foods that would aggravate: citrus, spice, etc.

I myself have had good success in having the ulcers clear faster by taking a q-tip drenched in hydrogen peroxide and cleaning each out. It stings for half a sec then TOTAL relief!! It seem to take the ache away and I find they heal faster. When i suspect them to be beyond back of my tongue, I add a bit of hydrogen peroxide to my Crest 3d mouthwash and gargle.

I've had the horrid heartburn you speak about. I got a prescription for nexium 40 mg daily. Works really well to put out the fire!

Good luck to you:)

Get better soon!
