Hi Samhawks

Do you have a topical treatment (some kind of steroid cream specifically designed for that area) you could use? maybe a dr could provide one - or use a steroid spay- type used by asthma patients- so you can continue to reduce steroids.

You can't keep on steroids for long as the side effects are too great, so you need to follow the advice that the clinic gave you as to following the tapering (reduction) down slowly to wean you off.

As Sian mentioned, you can use steroid cream sparingly which does not carry the risks of constant use of steroid by mouth.

It's called LOTRIDERM and your GP can prescribe it. Jill

Ps I'm presuming your doc or GP told you to lower the dose of steroids? It's called tapering.

I wa told 6 tablets for 10 days then reduce down by one a day , I've never been given cream for that area due to medication always worked , but this time something is different as it took longer for steroids to kick in and I'm still on 5 tablets and that high dose x

Hi is just like to give you some info on steroids. They are as a plaster to stop the bleed but that is all. Each time you start on a course and then reduce slowly....if things haven't worked you have to start again......but, each time on a higher dose. I eventually was on a starting dose of 80 mg and upto 140mg. They may help so e people for a while but if like me the dose has to be continually upped it does cause problems....such as...severe depression when you ar coming down off them..

This was over 20 years ago when nobody had any idea what was wrong with me . I'm just saying take care with steroids...very good when you are on a high with no symptoms but very addictive and the depression downside as the more your body adapts to them the more you have to take. Now much more is known about BD and there many other drugs, why not chat with your docs and perhaps find something better!!! I would NEVER take them again. And it states this in all my medical notes.
