Hi nickyclem

Don't exactly know the answer to your question except this is something that many of us have found and discussed before on this forum. I suffer with a lot of digestion issues including what feels like at times being intolerant to all food including dairy products which I tend to avoid.

If you put the word "allergy" in the search box above on the righthand side you will get up all the past discussions about this and other similar issues.

With a lot of these things it is a matter of cutting out a particular food or group of foods for some time and monitoring if things improve and then gradually introducing them 1 by 1 and waiting to see if there is a reaction....rather lengthy process that drives you mad, but it does seem to be the only real way of discovering if you have an intolerance/allergy to something you eat.

hope this helps

You could try soya yoghurts and milk the supermarkets all do it now. Also carob is a reasonable replacement for chocolate. I can't eat it at all so buy a 3kg bag of carob raisens from a online company called goodness direct.

Once you start eating them you won't stop

Yum

Hi Nicky

Early days I read that there was a thought that lactose intolerance was linked to Behcets (have no idea where I read it).

If it was true it doesn't account for the high incidence of BD in Asia.

I must admit of late I find I am not enjoying milk on or in anything but still love cheese.

Hello Nicky,

I have BD and have suffered from symptoms for around 40 years. My first husband had Chron's disease, so both of us suffered from different autoimmune conditions. My daughter has suffered with severe gastro problems since she was 20. Last year she waas admitted to hospital for tests. All the while, I was praying that she had neither of the diseases her parents suffered from. Chron's is reasonably easy to diagnose, but as you know, Behcet's is not. However, the medics found she was not lactose intollerant, but actually allergic to lactose. She had a long discussion with her gastoenterologist who confirmed that allergy to lactose is incredibly rare.

As you might imagine, I am very concerned that my BD may have exacerbated my daughter's illness.....and she can get very ill indeed. Her diet is quite restricted, not only cutting out milk products, but many pre-prepared foods which contain lactose.....just look on your shelves in the cupboard and in the freezer, you may be surprised! Even the drugs prescribed for her IBS contained lactose filler!!!!!

So, like you, we are watching this space!!!!!!
