Progesterone only pill and bleeding

I started to take the POP approx 5-6 weeks ago. First month was over the counter Hana version, then got prescription (which is Zelleta). First month was absolutely fine. Had period on Hana and started taking the Zelleta towards the end of the period. I am still bleeding from the period which started 11 days ago. I thought it was just usual period tail off but it hasn't stopped and now it seems to be increasing from spotting to bleeding. I don't know what to do. Should I persevere, but I really don't want to keep bleeding; stop altogether now mid packet; go and buy the over the counter version and swap mid packet to see if that is better; or ?? I am at a loss but I really dont like this. Thanks if you've read this far

I am experiencing the same thing, I can see you posted this a month ago have you got any advice on what to do? As I’ve been on and off bleeding for nearly two weeks and due to PCOS I get really bad cramps so I’m in pain all the time. My doctors are just telling me bleeding is normal

Hi, really sympathise. I ended up stopping taking them entirely as I just couldn't cope with the constant bleeding. I contacted my GP practice and they said to persevere, and that for "most" people the bleeding eased after 3 months. I wasn't prepared to deal with that, and then potentially be one of the ones where the bleeding didn't ease. Seems really backwards. I had an appointment recently with nurse at the practice, who basically said that most of the modern POPs are all based on the same thing so would potentially all have the same side effects. She's prescribed me an older version to try, but I'm unable to get it anywhere as it's out of stock and no pharmacy seems to know when they'll get it in. So I'm a bit stuck at the moment. Quite wary about taking anything. Sorry that's not that helpful, but I'm still looking for answers too. Cx

No it does help quite a lot actually because I used be on POP a couple of years ago and I didn’t have this so maybe I need to ask for what I was on then because I was on it for 7 years and never had a problem so maybe it’s just the modern ones but I only came off like 2/3 years ago but it could have changed in that time tbh. So I will go back to my GP and see if they can prescribe an older one. Thank you so much for replying xx

Just looked it up - as my prescription is still at the chemist! And I think the drug is Norethisterone but will presumably have a different brand name. Good luck with it. I'm quite nervous of trying again - assuming that it ever comes back in stock! Not that there are many alternatives that appeal either! Cx

Okay thank you so much! They are trying to get me to wait for 3 months for it to settle but I don’t know if I can, I’ll ask if they have that one. Yeah I know I am the same
