Hello, I have just had the coil fitted yesterday as my gp recommended due to irregular heavy painful periods. The procedure was terrible I've never experienced any thing in my life like that. I was advised to check for strings which I did today but I couldn't locate them. Not sure what to look or feel for to be honest. Has this happened to anyone on here.
Liletta coil: Hello, I have just had the coil fitted... - BASHH
Liletta coil
I've had a Mirena coil fitted a couple of times which is a very similar procedure. I don't think you need to check the strings so quickly after it's been inserted as you can be quite sore for a few days after and quite crampy. When you feel for the strings I find that if you sweep a finger around the neck of your cervix you should feel two fine wires, they can feel quite stuck against you and lay quite flat on you so they don't necessarily feel like strings but you should be able to notice them. Hope you're feeling better soon, if you really can't find the strings go back to your provider and get double checked that they're in the right place
Sometimes your strings get a little caught up around the entrance to your cervix. I know mine mine sometimes I can feel them easily but other times I've to wriggle my finger around to see where they are.If you're really worried about it go back to your gyno/doctor and have it checked. It's easily enough sorted and I'm NO WAY will it be as painful as it is having it out in.
It was very painful for me as well and I'd about 3 days of intense cramping/pain afterwards but honestly especially for me who has no intension of having kids and wants to have a non hormonal contraceptive method it's been the best.
I was in the pill for 20 years and when you give it some time and it settles into it's regular cycle (maybe 2 or 3 months) it'll be much better for you
Hope this helps. Xx
