Copper coil

I’ve had the copper coil since November 2019 and I’ve had my periods as normal (apart from being more painful and a few day’s longer) but I’ve had pretty bad spotting in between my periods with maybe 2-3 days between periods where I’m not spotting. It’s a really dark brown/black and had the consistency of gum/tacky glue. Any advice as I’ve been in every other birth control and still had this problem. I thoigh I jist didn’t suit a hormonal contraceptive but clearly it’s all contraceptives

Ok basics to begin with I presume your smears and sexual health are up to date ? What age are you ?

I am 18, my sexual health checks are all up to date and I’ve never had a smear test due to the minimum age in the UK to get one being 25

Ok thank you. Its just if you were over 40 a lining of the womb assessment would be appropriate. Great your STI checks are fine.

Its worth being examined by a sexual health or reproductive health nurse or doc. Check for polyps at the cervix, or a cervical ectopy ( these are sometimes fragile and can bleed ) Neither are serious. If your bleeding problems persist, you might be better off with a Mirena IUS than a copper one. You could discuss that at the clinic. ( also if your periods are heavier and longer, that's another good reason )

and as no test in the world is 100% perfect, might be worth re checking chlamydia one last time , as you are in the peak age group for that.

I highly highly doubt it would be chlamydia as I’ve been in a committed relationship for 4 years and have only been with that one person. He was also never been with anyone else except me

Agreed its highly unlikely in that situation. Then local causes from the cervix or uterus are more likely, also consider systemic causes like hypothyroidism ( although unlikely )
