I have had my coil in for 4 years now and am due for it to be removed in a years time. During the whole time i have had it fitted i have not bled, only had the occasional bit of spotting. However, in the last few months i have noticed the spotting get heavier and i am now starting to have light bleeds. Is this normal and does it mean the effectiveness is compromised?

Having increased bleeds in the last year of a Mirena would be considered normal, as the hormone levels drop. It does not mean it is less effective - otherwise the company would never have obtained a five year licence ! :-)
