So basically it's been 7 months since I had the copper iud fitted first few months had the usual side effects (cramping heavier periods etc). These last 2 months ihave unusual periods in October I have 2 periods within a week of each other last month I only had 13 days in-between periods this month my period lasted for 10 days, I'm on day 6 of being off and I have spotting. I'm just so fed up it's effecting me mentally and my sex life with my husband. I'm thinking of having it taken out and going back on the pill. Just want to know other people's experiences am I being too hasty or am I right to want it out for my mental health. Since being on when I come on my mental health dips so low I've been diagnosed with depression a few years back and got better but these last few months as soon as I statt my period it's like I'm transported back to that dark place again then a few days later I'm fine

From my memory when I got the copper coil, I think they did say it could take a good few months to settle down. I gave it time & I’ve now had the copper coil in for over 3y. & the memories of all those side effects are fading. I haven’t had any issues in a long time.

That being said, we are all different so perhaps chat to your doctor again & see if they can give you a time frame as to when things should settle & make that your deadline? Or if it really is making you unhappy then don’t wait, take it out & consider asking hubby to get vasectomy?

I feel like we're in the same boat here. November I had mine fitted and it's just been stressful. I've had the copper coils for around 20 years but this time it's ridiculous. I feel like it's impacting my life in the same way it is yours. I've just been on, had a day or 2 off and now I'm on again. And it's not massive bleeding this month, it's more like there's something there when I wipe. Ever since I had this one fitted my periods had been lighter but more crampy. But then really heavy through the night. Just over 5 months. Surely it shouldn't still be like this?

So fed up with it.

After my experience please go back to your doctor or nurse and discuss this with her I waited 10 months and all that time I wasn't protected and could of fell pregnant!

So I finally went to the doctors, 1st appointment they had a look and told me that they can see the strings so sent me for an ultrasound. Ultrasound showed that the coil wasn't in the correct place and I wasn't actually protected, at this point I had it in 10 months really lucky I never fell pregnant. So I had two options, 1 was to have it taken out and reinserted 2, go onto a different contraceptive. Now I figured as they have told me all my life my cervic is really far back that even if they reinserted it what are the chances they get it in the right position so I opted for option 2 and now on the mini pill which I've been on since March and so far so good!Thank you for your replies
