What's wrong with my hormones ?

I was originally on a birth control which was Microgesti Fe 1/20 1mg which was norethindron acetate 1 mg and 20 mcg ethinyl estradiol. I was on it for about 2 years... I had no breaks and continued to the next pack. This is what was prescribed and fine for me. I had no issues after 7 days on the medicine. After getting stuck in the UK and not being able to get my original medicine, I was told by a doctor that taking Yasmin (0.030 mg ethinylestradiol and 3mg drospirenone) without a break would be fine and would be just as good as my original medicine. After 6 weeks taking this medicine back to back I started to bleed very intensely and I bled for 16 days.. which was so horrible and painful.

Another doctor then said it wasn't safe to take the Yasmin back to back without a break and it would cause bleeding like that. They then suggested (as did someone on here) that I take Gedarel 20/150 20 micrograms of ethinyestrdiol and 150 micograms of desogestrel. I was fine for the first nine days on it. I stopped bleeding from the crazy intense 16 days bleeding caused by Yasmin but now... i am back to bleeding with intense cramps.

Does anyone know what is going on?? Is my hormones messed up? I have now been bleeding for 4 days. I need some sort of help- not to be gross/ graphic but it is intense waterflow like bleeding followed by clumps of blood. Do I stop taking the pill and hope I stop bleeding? Does taking the pill make the bleeding worse? I am having horrible cramps and I hate it.. periods are very debilitating to me and there's no way I am going to be able to fly to my home company like this.

Hi Gabby,

Adhari who replied to you before made some excellent suggestions. The pill you used to take is a little unusual - the usual pill free week is replaced by 7 iron tablets . Some pills have dummy tablets instead .

It is a 20 mcg oestrogen pill. There are different choices of those. As Adhari said, they have stopped making the exact copy of your pill here in the UK. So you need to use a different progestogen.

Yasmin and Microgynon have different progestogens ( drosperinone and desogestrel ). Some women are sensitive to progestogens and these may not have agreed with you.

You can take the pill continuously for 9 weeks without a break safely - then you should have a break.

There is another 20mcg pill - which has the progestogen Gestodene in it . If you are bleeding ++ then I would consider getting that . ( femodette, sunya, millenette )

Presuming 1 no pregnancy risk ( missed pills etc ) and 2 sexual health up to date.
