Norethisterone

Hi I’m taking norethisterone to try and induce my period a little earlier as I didn’t want to take it for the whole period of time I was away so I wanted it to start earlier. I only started taking it on Monday - if I stop it today, will my period come in around three days?

I don’t know if 4 days is enough to have kicked the pill in if that makes Sense. Thanks!

I didn't know norethisterone was to induce periods - I thought it was usually used to stop menses from happening - and usually needs to be taken for at least a week to do so. Also when you stop it , you will have a withdrawal bleed.

It’s to delay it. But I know when I stop taking it, I usually bleed 3 days after it. 🤔 if I need to take it for a week - maybe I should just carry on taking it then until end of the trip. But I was due on technically until the week after next

Well there is no harm in continuing it until you have completed your trip. Then you will have a bleed , likely within several days of taking it. Your normal menstrual pattern will resume over time.

Hmm okay! So I’ll be taking it for about 15-17 days more, that will be okay won’t it? I won’t get side effects from taking it for too long?

Hmm having some upload issues. Progestogens can cause mood and libido changes, breast tenderness, vaginal dryness, acne on occasions. Bu this is a relatively short course. Remember its not a contraceptive on its own.

🤔 I’m a bit annoyed that I started taking it so early 😂 I wanted to try and have the period before the trip so I didn’t need to worry about taking it three times a day for two weeks but that’s backfired 🤦🏻‍♀️ should’ve waited but I would’ve likely forgotten to have started taking it in time. My boobs definitely feel a bit tender 🤦🏻‍♀️

Yes, Not a contraceptive I’ll remember!

I've been on norethisterone for 3.5 months now straight back 2 back but I'm for somehow experiencing some bleeding like spotting I've never had this at all while been on norethisterone and it's just came about on thursday gone! I take 3 tablets 3 times a day also so no idea where this spotting or bleed has come from

I would ask why your are taking a prolonged course of norethisterone ? To stop excessive menstrual bleeding ?

It's because I'm going for an endometrial elaboration some time this year and my gyne put me on the norethisterone to give me respite

I think its ablation. I wouldn't be surprised of unscheduled bleeding in this situation, progestogens can cause this. In addition, you are having heavy bleeding , so some breakthrough would be possible.
