I have been on the Nexplanon Implant for 5yrs and I don’t feel it works for me, I am often getting extremely long periods (several weeks) that are fairly light, but constant spotting. I have noticed when I am bleeding that I can be very unreasonable and needy/clingy with others. I am considering the IUD Coil, mostly because I am bleeding so often on the implant and this is now having an impact on my relationship. Does anyone have any advice? Or has anyone used either contraception/both forms? What did you prefer?

Hi. I had the Implanon implant about 8 years ago now and didn't get on with it at all. Moody, teary and constantly bleeding. I had a copper (non hormonal) coil fitted in 2012 because I no longer wanted hormones. The coil was a little painful to fit but I enjoyed not having to worry about taking anything and my cycles were spot on. A little heavier at first and crampy but I've always suffered from period pains and was warned a copper coil could make my periods heavier and more painful as you don't have any hormones making them lighter or stopping. I had my coil replaced in 2017 and unfortunately didn't get on with it, in constant pain and bleeding so I have since gone back on the depo injection which I hate!
