Hey guys it’s been a while since I’ve been on here but I’m super confused. Back in April I went to a private lab to have Hsv testing done. I got the results back with a 27.42 positive for hsv 1. At the time I had been having like small pimples around my lip but nothing major. As well as some Vaginal irritation that had been going on since December. When I told my doc about the results she told me to disregard those results , that everything is fine I don’t have hsv-1 and that I should continue living my life the way I’ve been living it. She wouldn’t test me. Now it’s the end is September and I’m really confused because sometimes I can feel a tingle on the right side of my upper lip. I’ve had a couple pimples over there but they look like regular acne. I really don’t know what to do as I’m dating a new person and he’s super aware of my situation but I would hate to pass it on. What should I do? I need some advice !!!!

**This means you are HSV positive. If what you report that physician has said is true, well... he/she is incorrect. Tell your partner that you are HSV-1 positive. Take precautions not to perform oral sex when you are having tingling or an obvious outbreak. Also, if you haven’t already, I’d get HSV-2 testing as well. If you’re having daily vaginal discomfort, that’s not likely herpetic, because herpes presents in an episodic fashion. Nonetheless, wearing condoms is a must until you figure things out. Go back to your physician and have them do another round of testing to check for your other infections.
I’ve been tested for everything else. It all came back fine. She refuses and a bunch of doctors have refused to test me sayingbthat I’m fine they don’t think those results are correct. Asbfir vaginal issue I believe it’s my mirena our causing constant Bv. But I’m going to press the issue until I can get another test. Also, all of these issues came about with my mirena
Im a physician trained in internal medicine. Board certified. The lab results are pretty clear that you have a dormant HSV-1. The antibodies show that you have been infected at some point in your life (could even be infancy). HSV-1 can be oral or genital. You may never have another outbreak all your life but the fact is that you have the infection. It resides in the nerve cells and there is no cure at this time. Be happy that you’ve had no outbreak. Enjoy your life. Inform your partner and take precautions. Have him tested as well. If he’s also seropositive for HSV-1 and without other infections, then really no need for condoms if you have a Mirena in place.
As for the recurrent BV, this is a possibility. But after treatment, it’s unlikely to persist unless you get introduced to an overwhelming population of the bacteria again from either a penis, vagina, or sex toy. Make sure your partner is treated and clean any toys.
I appreciate your input. I have been unsure of what to do for a while. The guy I’m with now , we rekindled our relationship and he knows everything and says he doesn’t really care about it as long as he has me so I guess I don’t have too much to worry about in this case just wanted to have some clarity. I’m pretty sure I contracted it sometime after I had my son, but I’m grateful for no outbreaks lol
