Deciding between coils

Hi I am due to have a coil fitted and can't decide between hormonal or non hormonal. I suffer from depression and came of hormonal contraceptives a year ago but haven't seen much improvement... any ideas of helpful suggestions

I'd be careful with getting a coil I had one and since having it removed Iv had pelvic inflammatory disease untold bladder infections and gyny problems.

i've had a coil for 5 years and just had a new one fitted to last me 10 years. I chose the non hormonal one as i had had enough of the pill and the implant sent me a bit crazy. I've suffered no problems with it. They do say the copper coil can make your periods heavier or longer and more painful but to be honest mine aren't any worse than before and I usually had v painful periods as a teenager. Maybe slightly heavier and little more crampy on the first day but nothing a painkiller won't fix. Not too bad after, usually only last 3-4 days and are as regular as clockwork. i suppose it would all depend on how painful / heavy your periods are to begin with?

As somebody who also suffers with depression, personally I'd say to get the non hormonal coil as the added hormones could potentially make your depression more difficult to handle on a daily basis. I found that when I was on the pill it made my depression and anxiety worse, and I had to come off of it. However you may have a completely different experience with the coil, good luck.

Hi, I’ve had mine for 3 and now and I’m due to get it out a year in February. At the beginning it was sore and my cramps were really painful but after taking pain killers i was fine again. I got the non hormonal one and 3 years later my periods are lighter and seem to be more regular now that my Body is used to it. When I need to get it out I’ll definetly just be getting it replaced!

Hope this helped :)
