Avastin is used to treat cancers of the colon, lung, kidney and brain, ovary and cervix. It works by stopping blood vessels forming in cancers and is often given when cancers have spread through the body. It’s given through the veins, often in combination with other chemotherapy drugs. In recent years it's also been used to treat some eye problems (wet age-related macular degeneration) in the form of an eye injection.
