I did not know there was such condition as autism spectrum.

I don't know whether I have autism spectrum or not.

My sister watched a programme on autism in adults on Channel 4 the other day.

she thinks that I display the symptoms of autism and I also have epilepsy.

I do not have social life, I struggle during social gatherings, I do not work and I more or less follow the same routine every day. I do not like any changes. I do not try doing anything different eg I do not do adult college courses. I have been suffering from depression for years (which is not diagnosed). Over the years I have been emotionally unstable and it's a on and off thing. There have been periods where I experience panic attacks or anxiety.

She thinks I always misunderstood people.

She has also pointed out other autism traits I have.

Before she mentioned autism spectrum, I had no idea such condition exist.

I am an adult and a mother of three.

She has been urging me to see my GP.

How am I suppose to approach my GP?

This is so awkward.

I wish there was a organisation where they could discretely diagnose for possible autism.

Try taking the AQ test online (Sorry I don't have a Link, but try google) and taking the results to your GP. I suspect that there will be a lot of people consulting their GPs about autism as a result of the programme the other day so there's a good chance that he/she will be understanding.

Hi, I got diagnosed myself. I just went to my GP and told them why I think I might be autistic, to be honest it was difficult because some doesn't believe it, but I got referred to a psychiatrist and got assessed. I feel really grateful for the doctor who referred me... Good luck!
