Does anyone have any advice on either. I am 36 and struggling to find cover with ataxia.

My husband gave up trying to get cover for me, too complicated due to various diagnosis. Although it can be done if you’re prepared to pay.

🤔 Try looking at such as gocompare.com and search for health

🤔 Google ‘Life Insurance for PreExisting Conditions’ there are several links

Search Healthunlocked for Insurance...other groups often post recommendations.

Insurance companies sure have an upper hand, in charging outlandish rates, for those of us with diagnosed ataxia, and/or PD!

Need top get all insurances in line before getting diagnosed with Ataxia. Once diagnosed it becomes a pre existing condition and is added to your policy. Best you could do is accidental death cover. That is why my children have not been tested for SCA.

I got coverage with a company called hive, on the basis of it wouldn't cover ataxia directly but if I die from an ataxia related cause then I would be covered 🤦🏽‍♀️e.g. If I lose my balance and get run over it would be looked at as though I died from the accident and not because I lost my balance.

There needs to be specific coverage for ataxia, does anyone know how to lobby this!

Hi , I am 37 and have been refused so many times. I am now with legal and general they helped me no end. It took a bit time but they got me a cover! I was so happy. If u want I can provide u with a phone number of a person who dealt with everything for me .

Hi Sherena and everyone, It looks as though you may have got something sorted already but, in case it's helpful to you, Ataxia UK has a couple of information sheets on insurance on our website. Here are links to the information:

ataxia.org.uk/wp-content/up...

ataxia.org.uk/wp-content/up... - this 2nd one is a little outdated but I think the links are current.

I hope it's helpful and good luck!

The issue that I have getting life insurance is that part of the tumour is still there although the medical opinion is that it may be shrinking. Despite this I have been refused 3 times. They never mentioned refusal because of the ataxia.

They don't refuse me as such, they just won't cover preexisting conditions. 😔 Sorry that you are struggling so much as well.
