The last time I saw my neurologist I told him I was having B12 injections privately. He is in agreement but cannot offer them to me on the NHS.
He took bloods for MMA and homocysteine but the lab. refused to process them because my B12 reading was high from having the injections.
The GP told me I had to have injections for life (after a blood test apparently showed a deficiency). The GP said my gut was not absorbing red meat. I started with Ataxia 3 mths later. After 2 yrs of injections, a doctor rang and told me the reading was so high that the system couldn’t monitor it and not to have any more. I’ve had none since and have an annual blood test for B12. B12 leaves a sour taste in my mouth.......
I am not an expert on B12, I had a blood test, my reading was 223, however I have been prescribed B12 injections 1 every 12 weeks, for life! I do truly beleive it is who prescibes it, for me it was Dr Paniker a neurlog .
B12 deficiency will show up in a blood test, ask your Doctor.
