Does exercise help any of you with your balance? Or building your muscles, does it help walking?

Yes, exercise does help. Before I learned to do my 'balance' exercises I was often slurry in my speech and my handwriting was often all over the place. These are very much improved and my balance is much better too. I have been taught leg strengthening exercises at the gym and also do Pilates once a week. I still fall over sometimes but not as often as I used to.

It certainly won't do any harm , and if it helps in any way, won't that be a good thing ?

I visit the council gym once a week, does not help my handwriting nor speech. Gym only exercises large muscles, legs and arms. By going to gym every week it gets me out of the house as well as working big muscles, no sitting down. At the gym, someone watches over me. With a caring partner probably do this at home.

All this typed with keyguard.

My Sister and I are going to start doing Pilates, I know you sometimes don’t feel like doing exercise but it may help.... 🤔 Cx

Tai chi has definitely helped my balance and it makes you feel better too.

I feel that the more you do it, the better you get, up to a point. It may help because if you have muscle strength and are used to moving, your brain doesn't have to concentrate so much on movement, other areas may get the 'application' they need. I am currently doing balance exercises and am improved at the exercises but this may be the result of an earlier problem, now being worked on. At the very least, exercise makes you feel better.

Exercices have definitely helped me. I look at every single activity as an exercise. From peeling a few spuds to cutting the grass. Believe it or not cutting the grass is easier than peeling spuds!

I go to a physiotherapist twice a week. One session is 1 1/4hours, the other one is 2 hours. I always have a sit down and pause between different exercises.

Have a look at my recent post Things are looking up, for how it's helped me.

Go for it, get exercising

I definitely see a difference. I try to vary my exercise because I think it engages me in different ways. Some I do an recumbent bike and weight training, sometimes I take a group class that focuses on balance and how thinking about your movement differently helps, another one that’s good is AquaFit because you can do things in the pool you couldn’t otherwise and good places will help you in or out if you need it.

I find the place that the difference is most apparent is one the pool desk. The slippery wet tile is easier to traverse then it use to be.
