Does anyone use an exercise bike or spin bike or do any kind of bike excercise?

Trying to figure out if one would be of benefit. And if so which brand is best?

I use one like this I got in argos, their own brand. Helps me get some cardio and cuts down on the muscle soreness and brain fog that I usually experience in the days after experiencing. Hard to keep the young fella from trying to use it as a bike though.

Any form of exercise will be a huge benefit to you.

I have hyperextended knees as well which makes walking even more of a struggle 🤷🏽‍♀️. I have just bought a hinged knee support that I am hoping will help!

I have hyperextended knees as well. A right pain with ataxia when my left knee feels weak, I would have a tendency to throw my body forward.

It is a huge pain, makes my balance and coordination so much worse! Really feel that rectifying that will ease my symptoms somewhat.

I bought a bathroom safety rail and fixed to wall in my garage. When my knee on the worst ataxic side is weak and giving me bother I do squats, applying the weight on my weaker side. It strengthens my knee and gives me a bit more control over the hyper mobility.

I have always used a bike and I’ve just bought one where I can sit in a wheelchair or chair and it has a motor that turns the pedals and handlebars, the physio says it will increase the core muscles making everything easier, which it has in two weeks. I couldn’t use my standard one anymore.

Well I accidentally erased my reply... so I'll start again...

when I was diagnosed at age 40 with young onset Parkinsons in 2010, the doc. told me to start a spin class. I had a Specialized road bike until 2016 when my Balance got too bad, I even rode the courage classic in 2014. in 2019, I was rediagnosed with Parkinson's Plus. They don't know what the Plus is, but they suspect ataxia and may or may not be able to determine between the 300+ varieties with genetic testing. I said no thanks.

I n 2010 I got a lemond spin bike with a computer to track my RPMS and heart rate. I went to classes on the Pelo ton app in between in-person classes until 2019 and the lockdown.

I quickly declined, and could only spin for 10 minutes at 70 RPM and was very fatigued. I joined a Pedaling for Parkinson's spin class on Zooom m-w-f and within 2-3 weeks built up to 40 minutes and have never had fatigue again.

I rode a beach trike on vacation in 2019, and ride one now.

Wow that's amazing. Must be a great class. How often do you do it?

I use a recumbent bike because I don’t have to climb up onto it I just sit down. It also has a normal seat instead of a bike seat and sits around chair hight so it’s easy to get on and off of and doesn’t require much balance.

Learn how to pedal to get max benefit. Need to push on down stroke as well as back upward stroke. Check out Youtube videos. One foot pedalling will help you learn technique. This way hamstrings get a better workout.
