Hi

Wheelchair insurance for airlines is not as straight forward as it seems. The airlines have a max amount they pay out and this does not always cover the cost of the equipment. BA is the official airline for transporting the Paralympic team and even they have had to discuss insurance issues with them as athletes day chairs are not even covered never mind the sports chairs. Make sure that you speak to the insurance company and don't just do an online thing. Make sure you are covered for the full cost of replacement equipment. Even with a solicitor behind you, trying to get money back to cover the full cost of replacing a damaged piece of kit can be hard. Try Fish Insurance- they have many years experience with wheelchair equipment. Good luck!

I'm with BlueBadge Insurance and they have assured me that I am covered for flights and in other countries. I've never needed to claim though so I can't comment on that.

The advice from Cuds is the best - check with the insurance company.
