I am new here and just want to know if others have double vision and poor balance
Double vision and poor balance: I am new here and... - Ataxia UK
Double vision and poor balance
I have had double vision for 3 yrs now. I wear prisms in my glasses that help a lot but i havent driven at all. When my eyes move off the prisms i just cant see clearly enough. Its just too dangerous. Balance is always an issue with Spinocerebellar Ataxia. I walk with a cane to help avoid falls. I have fallen and broken bones before. I focus more on what I can do not what i cant. Keeping your core as strong as possible is the key for me. I do aquafit classes at my local pool 5x a week and this has helped me tremendously. If i lose my balance and fall the water is always there to catch me! Stay positive!
Welcome
Good reply.
Both real problems for us unfortunately, but stay safe and exercise as much as you can. My temperature control is awful too so I need socks and a wet napkin around my neck x
Yes, definitely. Wear distance glasses with prism to make a single view while outside and had to get a mobility scooter for the bad balance days but try just to use walking stick
Welcome to our unsteady world, jean
Hi, welcome 😊 Yes, the majority of us here are challenged by both symptoms. Another eye condition that may occur, is Nystagmus. Vision can ‘bounce’ after a shift in focus. Prisms can work well, but can also make it harder to control balance when on the move, that was the case for me. 🙂 xBeryl
This is my first time commenting and I have both issues, but my double vision is only in my right eye and only if I look to the right. If I close one eye, the double vision is gone. And so far, I walk with cane. I am from Canada, but family is originally from England, so I feel connection, not with USA.
Hi there. Unfortunately both symptoms come as part of the package. For the double vision get your GPS to refer you to an eye hospital. You can get prisms or even surgery (not nice and didn't work for me)
I have double vision and I wanted to know whether you thought getting laser eye surgery in one eye and wearing a patch over the other eye was a good idea?
