Tight feeling and constant tickle in the throat

Hi allI am slowly recovering from my first flare up

COPD nurse told me my lungs were now clear, but would take a few weeks to repair, and for my cough to go away.

I am on Trimbow and Salamol.

I am now feeling a tightness in my throat, and a constant tickle, I can also hear a sort of gurgle in my throat.

Any help & advice would be gratefully received.

Sorry I can't help with your query, but just wanted to say welcome to the forum. Hope the throat tickle will gradually go away. Nothing is quick with lung problems.

The gurgle may be mucous - look on aluk website at huffing technique which helps to get it up. Have u tried using yr salbutamol to see if it relieves the tightness? U may need to use it a bit more till exacerbation settles.airways can be more " twitchy" after a flare up.do keep yr salbutamol with you, wherever u go and don't let it run out before reordering.

Thank you for your reply , very helpful, I have not heard of huffing technique I will look it up.Also I don't have salbutamol only Salamol and can only use it 4x day it does help but only for a very short time.

The tickle in the throat makes me cough so violently, I get myself in a state which doesn't help and yesterday hubby wanted to call for an ambulance.

Go aluk website to " lung clearance techniques ". U may have mucous in airways, causing yr symptoms+ coughing, especially after a flare up/infection as can take a while for inflammation to settle.if u get mucous up, it's worth doing morn & evening+ should reduce symptoms.another technique that's been a life saver, literally, for me, on aluk website is " controlled pursed lips breathing technique ". It's one to sit and practise when watching TV etc so u relax and use it when needed.tensing up, getting stressed will make it worse - keeping calm and breathing like this will help.xx

hi, my first flare up I didn’t know what to do, could not breath and couldn’t talk called gp but my wife had to take over as they couldn’t understand me. Even though I have a COPD plan in place and a rescue pack was not sure , but they told me to start and call after 5 days if it had not cleared. I am lucky in the fact I don’t or very rarely cough. I often have gurgling specially when lying down (feels like breathing through water), but has not affected me (yet). It’s very hard for me to tell whether the tightness in my throat is COPD or GORD. The muscles in my throat and neck don’t work properly. I hope you get your answers. Kevin

Hi Kev60 as I am new to all of this it is so scary, and as you say is this tightness in my throat or further down and its my lungs. I suppose only time will tell, and my personal knowledge will grow,I think the unknown is the worst.
