Hi all in February I had a chest infection laryngitis problem used 2 rescue packs saw a gp listen to my lungs and 2 sputum sample sent for analysis. I got better 8 weeks on still struggling with loss of voice speaking is all over the place high and low distortion and squeaky not sure when it's likely to recover to normal, any thoughts. I have copd bronchietasis and asthma. Had a nasty fall 10 days ago and I am a bit battered but still recovering. I do clearance and have a mucolyte every day and clearing lungs regularly but still not back to normal.

my voice is unstable to say the least ….never know if it will work properly .

On Steroids and Doxy at the moment , nurse checked my mouth and tongue …..thrush again .

Given Nystatin , hope this will help, and reminded to rinse mouth after taking inhaler . Bought some plain yogurt too.

I’m sorry to hear you are having a tough time. I imagine it will take a while to recover from such a nasty chest infection and laryngitis. Maybe honey and lemon drinks would soothe the throat? But I would get it checked to make sure all is well.

I have bronchiectasis and my voice has been all over the shop since it began almost two years ago. I think it's caused by the phlegm that collects in my throat.I mention it every time I see the GP or consultant but they don't comment so I've assumed it's normal with the condition. I drink hot water with a chunk of lemon in it, it seems to help.

Bronchietasis is a pain if I Don't do the clearance techniques everyday but it has changed this time even though it has been 11yrs since diagnosis

Hi, whenever I get a cough it goes on for about 12 weeks. I also get some strange sounds from my chest. Almost as if someone else is living in there. The only thing that I find helps is inhaling steam with menthol crystals that you can get from pharmacy or Amazon. You only need a really tiny amount with boiling water. But inhaling at least 3 times a day, after a few days I find it does help.

Thank you I will give it a try

Can totally relate to strange chest sounds😀. Sometimes think there’s a flock of birds, or a snoring dog in there - often don’t realise the sounds are coming from me !

Perhaps put in another sputum sample and make sure your infection has cleared properly. I make up a lemon honey and ginger drink and add a spoonful of apple cider vinegar for when I have problems, I keep it in the fridge and sip when necessary. Hope you are recovering well from your fall and have no lasting affects x

One of my sisters had a fall a couple of weeks ago, she fell of the bed and couldn't get up. Her friend who cares for her was at a funeral so didn't call in until the evening, by that time she had been in the floor for 7 hours. She was taken into hospital and they found she had pneumonia. Luckily she did no damage and got her pneumonia sorted out. Falls are a big worry once we get older x

Oh dear so easily done glad she got seen and helped. I tripped letting the dog out and I'm 65 so not looking forward to be older and doing it more often

I tripped a couple of years ago rushing for an appointment and ripped the tendon from my shoulder which resulted in a rotator cuff op. I'm 72 now and try to be careful but things do happen sometimes. As i live alone, I have started teaching myself how to get up of the floor just in case i do have a fall and may not see anybody for a week x

Try inhaling Olbas Oil or Tiger Balm briefly to see if either of them help.

hi, I to have COPD (emphysema) but my voice issues are usually down to my GORD (reflux) it either causes my voice to become very hoarse or I lose it completely and happens quite often during the year, is this something you suffer with? My mum suffered with a severe cough for over a year and kept losing her voice, apparently the coughing constricted the muscles in her throat and neck affecting her voice box. They tested her after a year and found she had lung cancer so she had half a lung removed and they got it all . She’s ok now just celebrated her 88th birthday and she is more active than I am (envious). Hope you find your answer. Kevin

Hi kev60,I don't have acid reflux fortunately but I wonder if it's related to the hay-fever season .good to hear that your mum is doing well after her operation and living a good life at 88 yrs young

Hi, it could be although I don’t suffer with this my wife seems to have developed it only recently and her voice can get squeaky. I find my voice can change if my vocal cords are irritated by air fresheners and the like, my wife likes smelly candles but they have to be in the hallway so I don’t get affected also I find barbecue smoke can affect my voice which can be a problem in the summer. My throat and neck muscles don’t work properly and if irritated constrict around the vocal cords and my voice goes to a whisper or I lose it completely and then I just wait (after clearing all smells) for the muscles to relax. Hope you find some answers. Kevin

I don’t have any answers unfortunately. Maybe you could get a referral to ENT. I hope you feel better soon x

When I got RSV last winter, with sore throat and much coughing, my voice went down a few octaves and I sounded like Lee Marvin. Like you I take mucolytics and do lung clearance daily. I now also drink hot mint tea which helps dispel the gunk from my throat. My voice returned to normal after just a few days but it was weeks before the creaking in my lungs stopped.

hi. I have voice problems. Can be hoarse and croaky. Break up. At times is okay. I’ve put it down to my terrible cough that I get when ill ENT and a respiratory nurse have said it could be reflux causing it too I gargle with salt water . I do exercises when I remember. I’ve bought some throat pastilles that are for helping you get your voice back. I also find that Jakemans throat and cough sweets help. X

Hi,

I have recently been diagnosed with bronchiectasis. I already have asthma. I would recommend seeing your doctor again. It is all linked ear nose and throat. He will resolve your fears. It may be just another symptom. I was 5 yrs old and they took my tonsils out and that was the start of my respiratory issues. I recently had a consultation with a respiratory consultant and he said as a triplet you were destined to have health issues as the other two had development stuff that I should have had???

Do you reckon I should sue them ? I am 70 yrs 😜

Hope you get it sorted

Pedro
