I had bilobectomey to remove stage3 a lung cancer. Surgery was a great success. All lung cancer removed. Surgery lasted 8.5 hours.

Out of 17 samples removed, 16 dead. Did not regrow in dish. One the cancer source did. Grew to 2mm. Hence Plan on doing keytruda for a year. To kill any remaining micro.

My lungs feel great but I have had inflammation and trapped air. I can’t do anything when my lungs can’t get air.

Last scan showed trapped air, bent trachea.

dr says this is good. Shows nothing abnormal. Instead normal the right lung is expanding and taking over the open space.

Any one dealt with this? How long might last? Been three weeks now.

thank you

No surgery here, wanted to say thanks for the update.

Find out if you qualify for pulmonary rehab.

Great news regarding removal of the cancer, hope you get to feel better soon. Not so sure about the trapped air, has your surgeon given you any advice. I would go back and ask as it can't be conformable x

Thank you for asking.

Yes meet lung surgeon meet every other week. He is very good, incredible lung surgeon at utsw.

Went over ct scan last week. He is pleased cause scan shows trapped air in lung. Good. Means lung is trying to expand and take over bottom right. Issues not from some hidden condition. Not sure here. There is some plural effusion from surgery. I am afraid that why lung won’t settle easily. Am feeling better only tightness blockage is in the mid chest Breast plate right above. I am pushing myself thru hoping blockage inflamation goes away.

Scan shows a bent trachea. He says not a problem the rings? Keep wide enough. Will be ok when trapped air goes, lungs settle.

Hoping so, on that note I am going to start walking more and further.

Keep y’all updated.

So pleased yr surgery was success ful.trapped air sounds v uncomfortable.i don't have that but have >90% collapses of throat+ Airways + v difficult to breathe.i remain calm & use controlled pursed lips breathing technique ( see aluk website). It may be worth trying but I would also speak to consultant. Respiratory physio are very gd at teaching various breathing techniques to cope with difficulties breathing x

Good Luk I have cancer nolung but bladder cancer not Stage 3 - I turned down 6 hour surgery due to othher problems, see,s I made the right choice but, I am monitored for Lung Cancer yearly as I have a small growth.,

I don;t understand "trapped air, bent trachea." sounds alarmingbut your surgeon says it;s normal/ I read with interest just one grew and others dead if I had it right, Anyway good luck reading it seems great news.

1.) the bent trachea is from the lung pressing being it is filling with air

2.) the lung is filling with air as it moves expands and tries to take over area where two bottom lobes where.

3.) a good sign as the lungs don’t always expand and take over.

4.) once the lung expands air is gone the trachea should back to normal.

5.)regarding samples, they were removed and put in a dish to see if they were dead. Only one came back alive. Why I will be on keytruda for a year. Do all I can to cure, prevent s recurrence!

6.) Dr noted when all samples dead 80-90 % chance does not recur. My one sample does decrease a bit but still 80-90%. He showed me graphs.

surgeons removed all cancer. They also remove couple of lymph nodes and samples around the lung. They then put in a dish to see if it grows. 16 of 17 samples dead, not grow. A very good sign cancer won’t recur. As the cancer responded to immunotherapy. So should be none remaining. Maybe micro why I will do keytruda for a year. Also one sample did grow 2mm. This was the source of the cancer. So it was biggest removed.

Will restart keytruda once my lungs settle and this inflammation goes away. Few weeks hopefully.

want to add surgeons. There was a lymph node on the sub caring on the trachea I believe. Dr brought in world renowned teammate. To remove. Stated very very delicate. Many surgeons would not touch it too risky. These guys stuck with it and are a team. Means so much they took the time risk, etc to remove it all.
