Has anyone else been told there is a national shortage of this yet the GP dispensing practice is telling me that I will have to wait for a new inhaler until the beginning of March when they might have sorted something out I know there is very little left in my current inhaler so naturally am worried

Hi, I haven't yet but it's concerning you are running out of your inhaler and have no replacement. I'd call the GP and ask for a doctors appointment, this is urgent - easier said than done, I know! I've found that doctors receptionists tend to state things that are unhelpful, even damaging to your health, as they have no medical knowledge. hope you get it sorted x

There must be an alternative to what your using if no joy with GP I would be ringing 111 if you feel you are at risk of your health worsening they should be able to advise.

Why can't they prescribe Ventolin?

2 weeks is a long time to wait , the stress of wondering you will run out won’t help.

Ordinary aerosol Salbutamol/ Ventolin are available , I still get mine but it’s been limited , can’t get it every month.

I would contact a pharmacy tomorrow , and your GP Monday . ALUK too, open next week

Yes I have been told this but my doctor has prescribed me with Salbutamol inhaler which is the same as the salamol inhaler and your doctor should do the same. Where do you live? I live in London

Hello,

Thanks, no I hadn’t heard this but it explains why it hasn’t appeared with my repeat prescription when it was dispensed this week. The pharmacy told me they are waiting for it along with Roflumilast as well. I wonder if there is a shortage of that too ?

What a pain in the proverbial.

Thanks again for letting us know.

Go well

Pauline

I get two on prescription every month and they were delivered yesterday, I use a small independent pharmacy rather than one of the chains

Not easy to get a prescription - that takes about a week to get from our practice

Hi WheezyLass, I did not know there was a shortage, however, my doctor has asked me to stop using Salbutamol but to up my Fostair. This is because Salbutamol should only be used as a reliever and if a patient needs one every month then their other inhalers are not working properly. What other inhalers do you use? Take care Maximonkey

I am on max of Trimbow so can't up it so need the reliever

Hi I was told at Boots that that it was a national shortage and I that I was lucky to get my prescription filled last week. On Thursday, my daughter was told that it was Boots that had the shortage and she should take her prescription and try other chemists. I hope that you get your inhaler soon. x

I was prescribed one recently but it didn’t appear at my pharmacy so maybe that’s why. I haven’t followed it up yet as I only need it when my cough is bad xx

Thank you to everyone who has responded with various suggestions to my problem I am a patient at a rural practice which dispenses to over 5000 patients If we ever suggest that we could get our prescriptions elsewhere because of the length of time it take and missing items emotional blackmail is applied telling us that the dispensing part pays 3/4 of a GPs salary As it is like winning the lottery in getting an appointment now no one dares leave the dispensing part.

I will try ringing on Monday at 8 am to see if I can speak to the triage person.. as we are not allowed to speak to the pharmacist there without going through triage Triage is a farce anyway as it can be a few days before someone decides to ring back I'd gone to A and E that afternoon last time as was aware was getting more and more breathless There I was asked what my GP was doing for me!

I found an old Ventolin inhaler valid until June 2025 when looking through some handbags to see if there was one there so I will use that I prefer that medication to the easi-breathe anyway

As regards doubling up my medication I am on the maximum dose of Tribow so that isn't an option

Some kind soul said she would post me her spare inhaler what a lovely thought but I am not sure I should be taking your medication

I am still waiting for my hospital appointment from early September I do now have a date at the end of June I rang the consultant's secretary about a cancellation list to be informed that there are over 100 patients waiting on that list so late June is going to be much sooner apparently
