hi - I have posted before that I did not know anything about copd except what I have learned from this site I still have 18 days before I see my pulmonologist, so I have a question-I use my inhaler once about every 2 weeks and always near the end of the day, it was different to day as soon as I got out of bed i could not breath and had to use my inhaler so does this mean my condition is getting worse or is this just how copd works?

You do not say which inhaler you are using?

I was very impressed by you when you said you only use your inhaler every two weeks. That’s amazing. I use my long-acting bronchodilator called Trelegy Ellipta daily. My ventolin gets pulled out as required which is rare. That’s fantastic if your breathing is so good generally. It looks like you had a bad day, with COPD that’s pretty standard. Well done x

hi there hope you are doing well : I dont have a problem with breathing very often my problem is and has been since December is my stats drop really low and then they zoom back in the 90s very quickly and every one tells me to tell my doctor ,well I don't have one and cant see any one until a March 5th even when they drop really low I still breath well , I don't even know they drop until I use the oximeter, this is why im so scared at what stage of emphysema im in!

Hi, sorry to ask why do you take your inhaler once every two weeks? And what kind of inhaler do you use? I don't know what the doctor has told you how many times you should use the inhaler....I guess that it will not help much when you use it every two weeks it should be taken regular. I have to use my inhalers every day, without it, it will do me no good and I would end up with breathlessness....i might have good days that I do not use it as much, but still I have to use it at least 2 puff's a day. Depending on what inhaler you have been prescribed. 🌺🍀 Hope you getting better again!!

Depends whether someone is on inhalant medication or ventolin (a reliever to widen passages) You said that you need to use inhaler about every 2 weeks so sounds like ventolin. If you are assesed a medicine your Specilist doctor will be able to assess. Hang in there, whats to be will be.

I there hope you are doing as well as you can-the inhaler I use is ventolin and the reason I don't use it more often is because I don't have breathing problems everyday and my doctor told me to use it only when I need to; and I feel great after I used the inhaler

Do not worry, I doubt that your condition has suddenly got worse, it progresses slowly.

Do you take a mucus thinner like Carbocysteine? It is possible that you have congestion from a mucus build up. Do you have a cough or a wheeze?

Another cause could be inflammation of the airways sparked off by an allergen such as dust, smoke, chemical fumes or traffic pollution. The smoke from wood burners set me off with inflammation that will last for 24 hours or longer.

Oh Les, This doesn't sound right. I am on 3 different inhalers. The Ventolin in a Blue Press Holder, is a daily Inhaler and is normally prescribed for all of us. I use mine as soon as I have a Breathing Problem,( have Ventolin in my pocket, car, Bedroom, Kitchen. Always handy to Reach out to. I also use a Spacer, not every time. again, ask the Pharmacy about the Spacer. Ventolin can be used as often as You need it. Why don't you ask your Pharmacy if you can't get to a Doctor. The weekend all Pharmacies are open. My other two are Steroid based, taken every 12 hours.

Good Luck & Best Wishes. xxxx

thank you I really needed to hear that because I am already about to go off the deep end over not knowing anything -but no I don't have a cough nor am I wheezing and the only thing I am on is a inhaler-after reading your post I got to thinking about all the exercising I did yesterday and now am wondering if maybe that had something to do with it

Hi les4560, it sounds like you condition is very mild and the blue inhaler should only be used when you need it, hence the reason you only use it every 2 weeks, which shows how mild your condition is, thats how I started out years ago and still only use my blue inhaler when I need it . Your short of breathe in the morning could have been triggered by a number of things and I wouldnt worry too much if you havent had another episode. Lungs diseases dont progress overnight but if its worrying you speak with your doctor.

I have to say that l would swap places with you any day. I use Symbicort twice daily,

Respumat two puffs ,once and Ventolin two puffs up to 6 times a day.

For all of this,l can walk upstairs, take a rest then down, walk to the garage next door,

rest. From what you tell us,l would imagine when you are breathless,or what YOU call

BREATHLESS., all you need to do is sit and relax for as minute or two, calm yourself and

carry on.

Not being a Doctor, but living with COPD & Asthma for 12 years, that you just have

the normal problem that most people ,how exert themselves have !!!

les4560 hi i had exactly the same experience a couple of weeks ago got out of bed and couldn’t walk more than a couple of yards and without stopping.so short of breath took medication and after a hour or so was back to breathing ok no more issues since.i asked the copd nurse what could have caused this she said you could just have had a build up of muscu overnight that had not cleared I don’t think there is anything to worry about but if concerned ask the doc hope this helps

I have severe COPD and every day is different. Ocassionally in the morning I panic a bit before I have had my first puff of tiotropium. I don't have a cough but I do find myself "clearing my throat" from time to time. I don't always need Ventolin but I do take a puff before bed for good measure. I take carbocysteine regularly twice a day, I guess that is why I have to clear my throat, I think it is good for sinuses too. Your pulmonologist should sort you out with the medication you need. Why not keep a diary of how you feel from day to day it might help to determine the best treatment. I have a course of emergency meds in case I have a flare up, it's good to know they are there if you get a rise in temperature and are really out of breathe. Oddly I have never been referred to a pulmonolgist, so make the most of it. Good luck
