Bleeding nose on oxygen

My wife is using her oxygen more and more and was suffering from a very runny nose and recently a bleeding nose. Nothing major, but constant and probably not helped by blood thinners. Is this something that others have experienced and is there a solution?

Hi I have had nose bleeds while on oxygen I did get advice from both my oxygen nurse and consultan. Speak to your wife's nurse and get her advice as we are all different.have a lovely day both of you and take care 😊 Bernadette and Jack 🐕 xxxxxxx 🌻🌻

As others have suggested speak with your oxygen nurse. Oxygen can dry up the membranes in the nose and make the fine capillaries more susceptible to bleeding. Obviously with your wife being on blood thinners it makes the situation difficult. Is she on a mask or nasal cannula? A mask could reduce the problem.

A mask could work. The problem is not so much from drying out her nostrils as the opposite. It is making her nose run and I think wiping and blowing causes nose bleeds

I find at times using oxygen makes my nose run a lot. At other times it isn't as bad. I occasionally have slight nose bleeding but not on a regular basis As others have said it may be best for your wife to have a word with her respiratory nurse.

I am on oxygen and had a nose bleed quite recently. I was advised to use a gel for inside of my nose, as the oxygen is very drying. Thankfully l have not had a nose bleed since. It's worth a try.

I will do. I was thinking it wasn’t the drying of the oxygen as she gets a very runny nose. Further investigation suggests that is the body trying to rehydrate the nose

When I first started with oxygen I had a constantly bleeding nose in the mornings but this settled after a few months, I do have a runny nose, particularly in the morning and, horror of horrors, I sometimes have a dewdrop. I was prescribed Naseptin for discomfort in my nostrils but don't seem to need it now. xx
