Just been using oxygen for the last couple of weeks and have found I am getting a lot of congestion and bloody blockage in nose . Went to see GP who said to use saline spray which I already do but has little impact on bloody blockage and also prescribed Dymista nasal spray but reading online I think this could be the wrong thing as it is more for people who have nasal irritation due to pollen etc not the use of oxygen, in fact I even read that one negative side effect of Dymista could be to cause nose bleeds . Sounds like this isn’t the right thing to use any advice or things you are using ?

bloody blocked nose due to oxygen use
Hi. I have a sore nose without using oxygen, and tried the sprays to stop the scabs with little success. The one thing that has helped so far is making a salt solution with warm water and rinsing the sinuses out with it - a lot of mucus came out into my throat. Other sites have suggested using steam inhalation to ease things. Not sure if any of this would be possible for you with your breathing tubes.
Hope you find a solution soon.
I use Ayr Saline Nasal Gel. It stops the nose from drying out and stops the nose bleeds. Give it a try and see if it works, you can get it online, if not at your local Boots chemist.
Hello, it can take a while to get used to using oxygen. I once had a mahoosive nosebleed, really scary ! It turned out to be a roque prong on the nasal cannula, one prong was longer than the other. I sorted that and all was well. Perhaps change your cannula and see if that sorts the issue.
Go well.
Hi Loveroftwist I had the same problem and also ended up with nasty sores up my nose which bled I tried many things including what you have been using with no real positive affect then I was advised to use NeilMed sinus rinse ( very cheap at chemist ) which really helps, the thing is we have to be so careful what we put up our nose when on oxygen, I was also given Naseptin cream which cleared up the sores in no time. hopefully you will soon find something that works for you.
Do you have a humidifier/bubbler on your concentrator?
